Having listerned to this a few times now and after reading a couple of interviews with the band about the new album, my view/opinion of the album has changed slightly.
I think what all the LP fans were expecting/ hoping for was another album along the lines of Hybrid Theory, I know I was. And after hearing A Thousand Suns I was greatly disappointed, to start with.
But, I can understand where the band are coming from a lot better now. LP are a band that want to constantly push themselves both musically and vocal (especially Chester) and don't want to rest on there laurels of success by churning out the same type of music all the time (hence the side projects - Fort Minor and Dead by Sunrise).
Vocally Chester has come on massively since Hybrid Theory, he's no longer (for want of a better phrase) a one trick pony with his long screaming vocals. For me his voice is now just incredible, his vocal range, depth and tone has come on leaps and bounds. As is heard on Dead by Sunrise's album, and also the haunting final track on A Thousand Suns (The Messenger) is the stand out track for me on the album.
All in all its not a bad album. Sure its definately no Hybrid Theory, and not really even close to Meteora (in my own personal opinion), but I think fans of LP have got to get used to the fact that they are a band who's music will always be changing, albeit with the same sort of undertones, and I for one tip my hat to them for that.
I don't think that based on this album that I would rush out to see them performing any of these new tracks live, apart from The Messenger as I would love to hear Chester kill the vocals live....the thought sends shivers down my spine!.
I would give A Thousand Suns 6.5 out of 10.
And bulb66 dont worry about it man, no harm done at the end of day
