Advice needed on new phone

A while back I made a post here, loudly moaning about the shocking battery life on my (then phone) X10. I wasn't used to charging a phone every single day for hours, only to do so again the next day. My job keeps me on the phone for at least 2 hours a day and at least 10-20 text messages through the day. My x10 would not even last 80% through the day.

Now, I've since given then X10 away and had a HTC Desire for a week. Battery life was just as crap. I've had two iPhone's as well. All crap battery life.

I realise weak battery life is just a way of life with smart phones, as they're pretty much mini computers. However, I would like some sort of smart phone. After trying all those phones, I've gone back to my S.E W800 which is about 5 years old now. It works as well as it did on day one. It's just a shame it doesn't have internet browsing functions.

My question is this. Can anyone recommend me an 'internet phone' with good battery life. I have no problem if it's a 2-3 year old phone, just as long as it has some sort of modern based web browser, and a battery life that extend past 48 hours.

this is the problem with high spec smart phones

thats why I have a legand, I have not charged it for a good 24 hours now.. but even that with usage like you would, is down to about a day and a bit.

New SE phones have very bad battery life. or tend to have.

what have the wave or what ever it is? but that don't have flash....

what about blackberry they are not too bad for battery life

My E71 lasts ages, it probably has one of the best battery durations of any smartphone even though it's about 2.5 years old. They're still available since it's such a great handset and can be had second hand for £100 or so! It's no slouch either, but you may find the Symbian OS less than pretty. It is incredibly functional though.

Look up some reviews to get an idea of battery life. I'm not a heavy user, but it gets charged about once every 5-6 days.

None of the review sites really state 'total browsing time' (For example the Desire would be around 4/5 hours)

How about a spare battery?

Get yourself a lower power Android, such as the Legend or Wildfire, root it, and clock it down a touch.

I can get a good (10 hour) day out of my Nexus and Desire, and I'm sure with a little tweaking I could get a fair bit more out of a lower device.

That said, my BlackBerries have always had decent battery life.

what about the hero, is that not worthy? fully updated of course

my legand is on charge now it could probley last through the night if I turn off the internet network ( and wi fi)

hows the LG optimus for battery life? that is lower power...althrough I m aware it don't have a captive screen.

You should probably consider getting something Nokia.
Something like the C3-01 should do the job.
Smartphones really are not business devices, they are toys.

My girlfriend is on her second iPhone 4. Battery life is just as crap. Magnificent phone though. Oozes class. Oozes battery life everywhere.

I'm looking at either a Blackberry or the E71. As I understand the Blackberry can at least make it to two days of using before you'd need to pull a charger closer. That's more acceptable.

Get yourself a Blackberry 9700.
My dad has just got one and although Blackberry OS is messy and unpolished compared to my Android phone you do get fantastic battery life out of it (especially if you use the holster thing).

It's one of the applicable devices to be upgraded to BB6 shortly too, which will hopefully make it a bit less of a pig compared to iPhone/Android.

Nonsense. If that is the case it is obviously faulty.

I can get an average of 4/5 days out of my iPhone 4 with moderate (not at all light) web/phone/message usage with ease. I dont skimp on the backlight either and have email fetching set to an hour.

It is by far and away the best smartphone battery in recent times, I hope HTC can improve upon it further, especially with all the talk of dual core processors and whatnot.

Blackberry 9700! My battery lasts me 2 to 4 days, which includes calls, all my work emails, browsing the net, listening to music depending on how heavy I use it. OS6 will implement a webkit browser but when we'll get OS6 that's another question! I've put on a hybrid firmware and battery life is pretty good, much better than my previous phones which include an iPhone!

Blackberrys seem to have a great battery life, my friend constantly goes on about it being good even while he is doing a fair few things with it. However an other option you could look into is a cheap long lasting 'simple' phone and then maybe a portable device that you can use to access internet? something like an Ipod touch perhaps?

iPhone 4 battery:

Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G
Up to 14 hours on 2G

* Standby time: Up to 300 hours

Internet use:
Up to 6 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi

* Video playback: Up to 10 hours
* Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

4-5 days = 96-120 hours... I doubt that your phone will last that long with normal usage.

It's the same battery as all other phones use, lithium-ion, Apple did not invent a new battery.

What I meant by my post was that the phone as a whole and the way it uses the battery is far better, not that the battery itself is anything special, so kudos to Apple for that. :)

The phone has a much better battery time than most other smartphones out there, it is outstanding.
