Not sure I like the idea of this.

You can't withdraw funds once they've been added and obviously you can only buy items from Steam.

They seem to be in very odd amounts deliberately so you always have money left over after a purchase, much like MS Points.

There's also all the odd 1p's, 2p's 5p's etc that have even less chance of being used up. More free money for Valve.

I think I will stick to using my credit card, at least I only spend what it costs.

I wouldn't use it for myself. But it's a good idea if i can gift an amount to a friends wallet. A friend finding £10 in their steam wallet from you for their birthday is a nice thought.

as above

also I heard there creating it so you don't put your credit card details in so less chance of you losing money from creditcard attacks. however i dont see how that would work.

Good for gifts. See no other reason to use it, unless they plan on getting rid of the buy a game option and it must be taken from points.

Same as above, I just can't see any use for this apart from gifts, so it's in effect like buying someone a store voucher as a present.

"or within a game that supports Steam transactions"

Anyone else smell micro-transactions on the horizon?

I don't think it will be for valve games but for the likes of mw76 and other ativision style games that want micro transactions and so steam needs to support it if it wants the business.

i think it would be good if you can use the funds as part payment, ie, if you have £2 in your funds, u can put that towards a game and pay the rest normally.

then i can load up how much i wanan spend at the beginning of the month and have the money ready and waiting for when i see games on offer

So steam also becomes a bank ? Bad for something that has the reputation of being hacked/spoofed/whatevered.

steam has no reputation for being hacked.

only thing it has a reputation for is retards giving their passwords away.

I mean if you fall for a chat message telling you to give them your password i na window that says "Never tell your password to anyone" and if you click any link you are sent that is not an official valve link it pops up saying

And you still enter your details, you deserve to lose your money.

Short of having a man stand by your computer and kick you in the balls if you try to give your password away there's not much they can do.

Wonder if there'll be incentives... Like giving you a tenner back in your 'bank' for every x amount of games bought or money spent?

I've never had any problems with my nearly 3-year-old account, so the "reputation for being hacked" makes me think to Tefal's above post. Still, smartly beefing up security is always welcome.
