Origionally I was paying £30 for 600 mins and unlimited texts + £5 web browsing deal (500mb) + £6.99 insurance + itemised billing this came to over £40. After ringing up a couple of times I managed to get a member of vodafone to reduce my line rental.

The deal he gave me is this; £17 a month for 300 mins unlimted texts 1gb internet + £6.99 insurance. So for dropping itemised billing + the web browsing pack, I'm paying half of what I had and only getting 300 minutes less (of which I'll probabally use around 200).

I guess a bit of haggling and talking goes a long way with vodafone :D!

All you've really done is dropped minutes you weren't using.
Constantly people will post messages like:

I phoned up my telco, they doubled my minutes and dropped my rental by £5 so I signed up for another 18 months.
The fact they weren't even using the minutes before their upgrade doesn't seem to register.

Far too many people are paying for things they simply don't use.

I did similiar £44/m for 900minutes, unlimited texts, "unlimited" (500MB) Internet. Once contract was up all the "upgrade" options were rubbish but by contacting them directly I'm now paying £17/m for 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 1Gig Internet :D

Agreed, I was being taken for a ride earlier. I went for this contract simply because one of my ex's would only use mobile phone for contacting her and when it came to renewal a year a go I just stuck with it. Times change and now my missus uses the house phone in the evening so I hardly use my phone minutes. Just shocking how they can charge £17 for 300 minutes extra.

Just generally a heads up for any one else just keep on the phone and keep them talking to see what they can give you. At first they were just going to reduce it by £5 and give me 300 mins 500 texts 500mb internet (which would have been alright but I felt that for the price it was a joke so just kept talking and bam).

You can get better deals with SIM only + cashback

Not without cancelling and starting a new contract AFAIK - I changed to sim only this time which is why the price is lower (I also have other services on there, 1gig openzone, etc.).

Reason I was paying so much before - at the time it was the only contract available for the phone I wanted which wasn't available anywhere else in the UK.

Well just incase you'd like to know :p You can get 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB internet for £20 a month on a 12 month contract from Vodaphone, take into account the £110 cashback from Topcashback and it works out at a little over £10 a month.

Unless theres a reason you cant change contracts?

Bit late now having just changed/re-newed contract for 12months, but good for anyone in the position of changing contracts.

I've orderd a T-Mobile sim only deal.

Its 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 3gb fair use internet alll for £10 a month.. thats a bargain in my eyes, 12 months at £10 for more than I'm getting now.

Cancelling contract as I dislike my phone that I had to take as my Orgional N97 was EOL'd and needed to be replaced :(.

No point having minutes that you won't use. I tend to know people who do the opposite. They are so determined to have £20 line rental, that they seem to ignore the fact that they go 200-300 minutes over and have big bills almost every month.
