Sony Ericsson Android XPERIA

Looks like they are trying to quell the backlash over the time of delay - maybe they read that unless it happens soon everyone will jump ship to Samsung or HTC.

dont see how htc could ever compete with sony for the rumoured gaming stuff they are supposed to be bringing to android.

i dont think SE will of learnt any lessons from this whole older android thing either. they only care about sales and the x10 series has sold great. pretty much saved them even.

To be fair to Sony, while having updates would be nice, 1.6 is still a good system and doesn't have any major issues.

At least we are not in a position where there are major issues and no updates from SE

I have a dissertation to edit and proof read, before binding tomorrow, and yet I'm waiting for this update :p.

lolrypt... sorry, wrong thread :p

I have to agree, SE have done very well in rolling out these mini bug fixes when compared to their previous smartphones support.

They've raised their reputation once again but now they need to strive and get it back to the height it was in their hayday

One side of the story. As it is my first SE I can't compare too much but I have spent enough time with you to know they were terrible in the past. The many updates were great but, for me, have added little - my phone is still slow/laggy/unresponsive several times a day. Lets not forget the issue of in call volume, still amazed almost 6 months later something has not been done. NVP, you would still buy a SE even if it was the worst phone in the world ;). Tbh (as "andy" said) I don't think SE care too much about software (apart from TS/MS which no one uses), as long as they shift the units. Look at the Satio, a former flag ship phone? The software was a joke on release and haven't they stopped supporting it? IMO I think SE will release 2.1 and finish on that so they can concentrate on future models. An improvement from the Satio at least.

EDIT - I know what you are going to say NVP ;) - that your phone is silky smooth all the time. For the most part probably yes but I have witnessed the same lag when using your handset.

My phone ain't slow/laggy/unresponsive  A bit of lag on the unlock screen and a slight delay sometimes with the app menu when using ADW.Launcher but that's it... no where near as bad as yours, not sure why yours is so bad though.

You're right though, I most probably will get their next flagship phone too as I am a dedicated SE fanboy (aka muppet). I have no idea why though, I stick with what I know and it get's better everytime. If I don't use the competition I don't know what I'm missing out on :p

TBH my X10 is not laggy, but i dont have crap loads of stupid apps running.
My m8 has the desire and I don't see any difference between them overall.
I just want 2.1 for the camera updates mostly.

That is effectively what I mean, poorly worded on my part. Additionally - noticeable lag during browsing (switching between windows), locking after a call, the dialer program, opening handcent and others. For the most part it is fine, as I said only a few times a day but it becomes more apparent as the days go by. I think part of the problem is living in a house with 4 iPhones (and Joel's crappy Samsung :D:p) - the response of the screen is second to none. The thing with mine is I notice more and more little annoyances and am struggling to know if it is my borked handset (battery and signal issues) or just the phone. Despite my ramblings, I do like the phone and hope once I send it off and get 2.1 it will be a different story.

EDIT - Basically these are the issues with my handset, I believe at least the battery and signal issues are due to a fault.

  • Lock screen lag
  • Lock screen doesn’t unlock some times
  • On some occasions after unlocking the phone (and very little movement on my part) it has opened several programs
  • The screen goes nuts some times, acting like I am pressing on it several times at once
  • Rarely, when typing a text message it vibrates for almost 10 seconds (during this I can’t type)
  • Signal/data connection drops every few seconds/minutes when browsing even when stationary
  • Low in call volume
  • Apps crash/force close at least once or twice a day
  • Charges too quickly
  • Drains too quickly (with 3G or gaming around 1% per minute) – basically the battery is borked!
  • Browsing doesn’t work sometimes despite full signal/data connection
  • Contact pictures - despite using high res ones they come out all blocky
  • AUTOLOCK after phone calls!

I have my charger for my N82 at last so can begin the process of send the X10 back.

well without a doubt it could have been a GREAT SE phone, legendary IF they had not locked the bootloader and taken so long with updates.

That noticeable lag during browsing (switching between windows), locking after a call, the dialer program, opening handcent and others
I've never noticed the browser lag
Locking after a call isn't really an issue for me, I just unlock it
The dialer program seems fine to me, apart from the call log call button calling the wrong stupid people!!:mad:
Handcent is smooth for me, no issues at all.

Could be your phone or the apps/processes you have running?

My only issues, as said before, are: lack of multitouch, crap in call volume, and below par (for Sony) audio experience. Other than those three things I think the phone is awesome, videos are great, multi tasking is great, screen responsiveness is not a noticeable issue at all, looks are awesome, great camera and it does everything as well as every other phone.

(and Joel's crappy Samsung :D:p)
Hahaha Legendary phone!

All the bloody time for me. As stated usually only to do with opening or switching between windows

Locking after a call isn't really an issue for me, I just unlock it

Personal preference but why not give you the option. If I remember rightly I think they denied it at first. For me it is the consistency, mainly how long after the call it locks - on the odd occasion it doesn't do it at all.

The dialer program seems fine to me, apart from the call log call button calling the wrong stupid people!!:mad:

When you have 300+ contacts all with pictures - it becomes very lag intensive.

Handcent is smooth for me, no issues at all.

Runs fine for except when opening sometimes - takes a few seconds to fully open

Agree with most apart from screen responsiveness (at least compared to the Desire/iPhone 4).

Hahaha Legendary phone!

NVP - You know he has always had bad phones. We tease him on a daily basis but my god it is a terrible phone. I don't know why it has a touch screen - it is terrible!

Can answer these in order for you
  • Lock screen lag
  • Never seen this 1 ?
[*]Lock screen doesn’t unlock some times
Mine is over sensitive if anything, sometimes it swaps the bar from side to side rather then unlock, but thats me not looking at screen.
[*]On some occasions after unlocking the phone (and very little movement on my part) it has opened several programs
Yes I have seen this on mine, it was doing it in my pocket, after i finish with phone now i push the power button to put it into standby right away.
[*]The screen goes nuts some times, acting like I am pressing on it several times at once
    Never had this.
[*]Rarely, when typing a text message it vibrates f or almost 10 seconds (during this I can’t type)
    Again never had this
[*]Signal/data connection drops every few seconds/minutes when browsing even when stationary
although this could be your network provider, on Giffgaff I have great data comms
    [*]Low in call volume
Agreed, I usually use hands-free for this reason
[*]Apps crash/force close at least once or twice a day
I don't have tons of apps running, but the only 1 I can think of that had issues was streetpilot, but that was once after initial download.
    [*]Charges too quickly
    ?
[*]Drains too quickly (with 3G or gaming around 1% per minute) – basically the battery is borked!
batter is not great on mine, but app killer helps - reducing data comms, and after debranding it improved a massive amount. but - it sounds like your battery though.
[*]Browsing doesn’t work sometimes despite full signal/data connection
Not experienced this. Tried a few browsers too, but the default is what i use now.
    [*]AUTOLOCK after phone calls!
    Agreed it is anoying sometimes.

It does sound like your phone is having some issues.

With regards to the signal dropping I am not so sure it is 02. It happens all the time (in bed, on the bog, on the train - all over the place). All my house mates are with O2 and have never experienced the same thing (dropping suddenly). Another issue is when I am out in London - specifically pubs and bars for some reason. My signal will completely go and I usually have to walk at least a few hundred meters to get it back. Most occasions I am outside and again all the people I am with that are on O2 have strong/full signal.

Signal wise, I've experienced the same on Voda since the 026 update. It was a problem initially then the first update resolved it but it seems it's back with 026.

The lock screen not unlocking sometimes happens on mine, not sure why but you just press the power button to "lock" the already locked screen and then try again.

Never had the "opening loads of apps" on unlock problem, but that coupled with the random screen presses and vibrate during text messages (I get this with specific keyboards when I've not pressed certain characters centrally) I reckon your screen may be "borked" too.

LOL @ charges too quickly... I think you need a new phone.
