Fitness Professionals

Just to add to the thread, I work in a small gym (management role) and it's a totally miserable environment, largely in part due to the people that work there and lack any sort of motivation. Take your time over choosing a job that will suit you.

I just thought I'd give this thread a little bump =)

i am enrolled at college! Level 1 award in fitness and physical activity followed by level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Gym-Based Exercise . CYQ btw

Level 1 starts next week, Level 2 in January. And level 3 is a possibility, the college arent currently doing it, but the instructor(Who was absolutely stunning) said she was considering trying to run the level 3 depending on success rates over the next few months.

So woo! :)

Just noticed the date on this thread.... Only took 7 months to get my ass in gear :o

Well done for enrolling!

Out of curiosity what does the level 1 cover? Afaik there wasn't a level 1 CYQ and level 2 was the 'entry' point as such.

Not doubting you! just curious! :)

We were told at the open evening that level 1 if you were just coming into the industry was a must with regards to basic anatomy, as we'd probably struggle on level 2 without it.

But on the course we will be learning to assist a personal trainer with fitness sessions, we'll learn to Plan and perform a personal exercise program. We'll learn to understand the bodies reaction to exercise and we'll learn to correct poor training.

There were other bits too, but i've slept since then lol

In connection with this DW Fitness are making their gym floor staff redundant since it saves them 250000 a year. Instead, they envisage more PT's paying them rent of £300 a month on top of the savings they will have made by the removal of their floor staff. frankly I am quite opposed to this because in some areas this will lead to their being hardly any staff at all???

Well I thought I would update you guys on my progress with regards to becoming a fitness professional.

I have succeeded in getting both my Level 1 and Level 2 Qualifications :) And I've really enjoyed the learning process, It's actually made me much more confident, as the courses in question require you to talk to and train a room of people. Which, I've always been quite unconfident when it comes to talking in groups, But after having to do so regularly, I now have no problems in doing so.

Now I don't think I'm going to be doing my level 3 anytime soon, as to be honest I got the first 2 courses free, as I wasn't working. But now I am working, the Level 3 course is £1000+ and I cant afford it.

That doesnt mean I never will do it, it just means I'll do it once I start to earn some good cash.

:)

On a side note, I met a girl on the course, She is niiiiice, but we're still at the beginning with regards to that :D

Congrats on the first two qualifications.

You pick up quite a bit in the way of confidence and coaching skills and generally improve your verbal skills and ability to explain things clearly and coherently.

I *might* have part time work as an instructor with a view to do PT as and when for the evenings and weekends. Duty manager is happy to have me come in to help out so I'm just waiting for him to give me a ring and get me enrolled as such. I've about 4/5 people that would be interested in PT from me so it's exciting even if I wil be working a full time job along side!

Good Luck! :) It'll be tiring ofcourse, But they'll see your dedication, and once you have regulars, you never know. it could move to a full time thing! Here's hoping anyways.

This is something that I've really wanted to do for a while now.

I enjoy this type of stuff far more then my current Computer Systems Management course.

Congrats on the qualifications mate! It takes some dedication for it all.
