hi, i'm planning to build my forst pc for xmas and i am stuck picking a graphics card.
I am willing to spend about 150 on a card and i was looking at a 5770, but is a 5830 better?
i was also putting in a MB with 2 slots as i am planning to crossfire in the future

i will put up some screens of my basket if u ask :)

depends on how you mean by 'better'. Naturally, the 5830 is a fair bit faster than the 5770, but at the cost of more power consumption, heat etc. It also uses two pcie power connectors as opposed to the 5770's one.

However, the card at the moment for that price bracket is the nvidia gtx460 768mb. Seems to give a 5830 a good run for its money (still has two pcie connectors though). If you are going intel, then get the 460 (as you could get another card later in sli). If you are going AMD and plan on sticking with one card, then get the 460. If you are going for AMD and thinking of adding another card later, id say keep the extra cash and get a 5770 (as all AMd motherboards do crossfire but hardly any do sli)

further to this many people find that they have driver issues when compared to those of Nvidia

ok yeah wat else r u gettin? personally i'd go for a gtx460

Forgive me.... but how can you personally recommend something you don't currently have?.... (your sig)

A bit like recommending a "pink Fluffy steering wheel cover"... the guy might be driving a Range Rover Vogue

:)

yeah but every1 has been recommending the gtx460 for budget builds

well yeah i can recommend it based on what other people have been saying about it and a mate has it and is seeing much better performance off it since he upgraded from a 5770

Would much rather advice was given to a new member to the forums on how to spend his money on a hardware component by a member who has current knowledge/or user of that hardware. As below
