The bottom line is that there are many people out there with a disgusting notion of Islam that is totally out of place of a supposed developed nation like the US!
The thing is that Islam has become a bogeyman to be feared to a completely irrational degree.
There's also the questionable logical leaps people make - rypt complains on the one hand that there was no condemnation from the leaders of Islam, but then states in the next breath that there is no centralised "church" in Islam. So who is supposed to be doing the condemning?

I've said that that is one of the problems, the fact that there is no centralised church.
I would like to see ALL the major clerics and imams condemn the violence that is occurring in the name of Islam, both in the forms of terrorism here and also in the forms of the insurgency in Iraq & Afghanistan.
On the Afghanistan point I would in fact expect to have these leaders to come out in SUPPORT of the US & British troops there as we were attacked first, so our invasion was just retaliation.
We were attacked by terrorists; it was not an act of war by Afghanistan, so it does not justify an invasion in response.

Who attacked America? It was terrorists of mostly arab nationalities not the people of afghanistan.

Instead what we see are the disgraceful sights we got with respect to our service men returning iirc, and so on.
The major leaders need to issue fatwas on terrorism etc.
They were attacked by a group that was to all intents and purposes tied to the Afghan government at that point (the Taliban) ... as such attacking the country back was fair enough

Why is it that the OP thinks it is wrong to bash all muslims because of the moronic acts of some (the furor regarding the mohammed cartoons, the more recent furor regarding the koran burning, the various acts of islamic terrorism, the many acts of violence against things non islamic in islamic nations, the killing of gays, the mother rape threats) yet it is perfectly acceptable to do the same to Americans because of the actions of some?
