Yep, I would love to have a cab but to be honest I can never go back to a soft top after having a folding hard top.

996 driving like a complete **** to do it.

Like I said, I know how he drives so recommended he go for a 4 Combination of that and the dodgy roads over the moors.

I couldn't afford a 997 ( 2 years ago ) and a Cayman S is a better car than a 996

Was thinking of suggesting a Cayman too.
I'd go for the C2S above the C4S, seems to be more to choose from too.
Extras worth having would be PASM, Sports Chrono, special wheel options, sports exhaust, short shift, seats come in standard, comfort or sports flavours, some have leather dash accessories which is very expensive to replace (£385+ vat for an air vent). Carbon, wood aluminium etc are all interior options, Bose sound system is worth having too.
Small things like coloured wheel centres are worth having as they are £120 a set to buy.

Having had quite a few "exciting" moments in the Z4 I think I'd prefere a C4S

Gearbox's are always fun point to argue on here. I (In agreement with DiamondMark) prefer the automatics. But this boils down to usage and driving style. I tend to cruise around with the odd blat, i suspect he does the same. I am not a "good" driver, i would never benefit from a manual gearbox, therefore the negatives of a manual .

Pretty much, my dad got a targa as he always wanted one for many years and for the price relative to the normal Carrera's it was a bargain, came with many more options and the Auto he wanted/required due to his knees. The targa is a good half way house with loads of glorious light and a better side profile imo than the normal carreras without all the movement you get from a cabrio.

As Mark/Jez has said the Auto isn't a bad box at all, If you want a proper blast you can't beat a manual, but don't discount the Auto until you have tried it.

Should get a Targa it has a boot space too, behind the seats.
