*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

Bleh, and it was folding nicely in the mid 60's as well clocked to 800/1600/2000, i'll give it a couple of days to see if i can get used to it, as my system is water cooled and quite so that whine is very noticeable. If i can't i guess i'll just have to send it back for a refund.

Just built a new system with 2 MSI 1 gig cyclones got to say they are a well built and very silent.

Posted some pics in case forum of new build if any ones interested.

Had a quick play with overclocking upto 850 core and 2000 mem and benchmarks didnt have a problem but windows7 would crash when i tried to watch a blu-ray using powerdvd. Maybe the overclock was messing up the HDCP. If any one else has had this problem let me know please.

just tested my pair of kfa2 1GB 460s, one of them is incredibly silent and performs amazingly, the other thinks its fan is constantly at 0 rmp (as afterburner shows) and can't regulate it's fan speed properly (always at 70-100% regardless of what I set in afterburner) - if I send it back will they realise it's broken or blame me for wasting their time? (not OCUK)

Damn. I love my cards in SLI.
GTX460 Palit Sonic Platinum and Gainward GS Goes Like Hell I mean.
I have GSGLH on top and it is only 2*C hotter than the lower card.
Since I have side fan on my case, without side fan the top card would go +8 - +10*C hotter.
A moment ago installed new drivers, the 260.63, gonna test mafia 2 now :P
update later.
in the meanwhile, here is my Unigine Heaven DX11 Extreme Preset result in hwbot, pics of my setup also there. rank 53 global :P
clicky clicky

I've got the same problem too - and so have several other users on here. It's a known problem with some versions of PowerDVD and GTX460's.

I've raised a support ticket with nVidia. I'd be great if you could too, as the more of us that report this the more likely they'll fix it.

Don't start messing around with your system trying to fix it, like I did in frustration before I found out it's not a fault specific to my PC!

I havn't even begun to overclock mine, I've been waiting for aftermarket coolers, but my Palit version is different to the reference board, so not sure if normal 460 coolers will fit.
Theres another card manufacturer with same board layout as Palit, can't remember which.

I called kfa2 about the loud card and it's on its way back to them now and will be replaced with a new (quiet) model. I have been playing around with the single card and it pulls really nice frame rates and has one of the quietest fans in my case, havn't overclocked it yet though - but the fan needs to be up at 70% before I can hear it.

Anyone else got a palit 460 768mb? if so does it whine under heavy load?

Kombuster i get just fan noise, Heaven benchmark i get fan noise and a high pitched whine (caps im guessing), but its far more noticeable when im folding on the card.

If it carries on think i'll just send it back and get my money back, as iv just got it today, i'll give it 1 more day, before deciding, damn shame nice little card too.

I got two Sparkle GTX-460's from OcUK's, they are almost whisper quiet; even under 100% load on Furmark; however one was faulty and OcUK replaced it with the Palit and the fan whine is so loud I need to turn up my speakers when playing games; totally unacceptable. I was surprised they sent me it; it isn't a like-for-like replacement.

To boot overclockers are being arsey about swapping it out. I bought the OcUK cards because it showed a reference exhaust cooler and they were nice and cheap :( whenever I mention they haven’t replaced like for like due to the cooler discrepancy they ignore me >_<

Well, I did notice a few more frames in mafia 2 :p

Just stuck with a modest oc of 850/1700/2100. Its not gone beyond 76 in kombustor. Played some mafia 2 and it didnt even reach 70.

All in all, im very impressed with the card. Coming from a sapphire 4870 you really appreciate the noise difference. 460 is so much quieter.

meh oc the hell out of that baby i have a palit one with a broken fan at a constant 60% speed and its overclocked to 900/1800/2050 and my max with kom is only 80 c and thats with a broken fan :D these cards were meant to destory all compitition also did you know that 2 gtx 460's in sli at atleast 800 core beat 5870x2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and thats at £300 cheaper :P

I've two Palits and they are quiet in my case, have you got the latest bios for it with the updated fan profile?

mine is quiet under load (and has the latest BIOS). its even quiet when playing Starcraft 2. but when playing anything that really pushes the graphics cards such as crysis or Final Fantasy (or FurMark) the thing's fan takes off.

That was my experience too, and the fan isn't just whooshing, it whines and the noise cut right through my headphones. By contrast you can't hear the Gigabyte card at all over the general whoosh of my case fans (and they're not loud), not even under really heavy load.

This is exactly my complaint but overclockers aren't interested. The OcUK page shows a reference Nvidia card with a exhuast cooler. Thats what I wanted and thats what I got; however one was faulty so they swapped the faulty one with this palit card that has an internally venting cooler thats far too noisiy. I've brought this up in a civil manner and have been as nice as nice can be; they read my RMA forum thread over 50 times over the course of the day but don't reply and ignore me (I even asked for an update a few times).

So I phone up and the guy on the phone said they'll give me a refund to puchase another card but can't swap it "like-for-like". I accept this (even though I shouldn't have to) and post an update in the RMA thread; magically they are able to reply to my thread within 8 mins! (whereas before they couldn't for a day and a half!) and tell me I can't have a refund and that they'll test it to see if its faulty and will issue me a replacement in that case. Thus totally missing the point entirely... all Palit cards are like this, its technically not a fault and its not a like-for-like replacement of my original :(
