THQ Drops GFWL

I think this is one of the reasons I don't really play, or try to play any new games any more... everytime I fire up Batman AA I just feel like bashing my head in before I've even got the the main menu screen. Not just GFWL which is terrible enough but the mess of login systems, etc. that every new game seems to come with now.

Personally I've never really had an issue with GFWL to be fair. First time I got a game with it (batman AA) I let it install, came out of the game when it tried to do update GFWL and used the windows updater instead to get the latest version straight away without the smaller incremental patches.

Set my live account to sign me in automatically and I never know its even running now when playing batman aa :)

The patching with gfwl games is good, you just load the game and if it needs updating, you dont have to root round on the internet you just wait for it to update itself.

Could you tell I was really stuck to think of something good to say about it...

Well you failed miserably. Its patching is the most pathetic thing i've ever seen. Loading up your game and it updating itself? Oh no thats too simple! Instead they ask you moronic questions like 'do you want to update, if you say no we'll sign you out so you can't play your game', and then if your version is REALLY out of date they update... multiple times in a row instead of straight to the latest version. Oh and all this time you have to keep loading up the game, then closing it, then restarting, and so on. Due to how slow this pc is and its internet it took almost 20 minutes to finally finish.

Game patching is rubbish, the self updater is rubbish, registering CD keys is rubbish, offline saves don't work once an online account.is created, it takes ages to sign in and half the time it tells you your region isn't supported, when you know it is.

There is nothing good about GFWL.

so far in 2010 so many games have switched to steamworks which is only a good thiing.

Unless of course you are one of the strange people who hate Steam.

Good move in my opinion. Microsoft never really pushed GFWL at all, much like all of their recent efforts to increase their PC support.

Spoken for the truth that. I've got a pretty fast internet connection and a mid range pc, but it took well over 20 mins to update Dirt2. Absolutely pathetic method of updating a game. Why can't it just update like steamworks games do (when you're not using them)

good news

myself and NathWraith had a game of DOWII this week and both of us were hating hard on GFWL

i guess the menu system must work well on consoles, but it clutters up windows.
if it was an integral part of windows with proper support then it would be excellent.

log into steam, start the game, log into GFWL...

do not want

clunky interface is clunky
