Hi there, please can you just answer a couple of quick questions for me. I've only recently got into MMA fighting and I love this sport, I've watched loads of fights now and basically am a bit confused why there is a UFC and a strikeforce? Can anyone explain the history to me and why this came about?

Also I've been watching mostly UFC so far and only just started to watch all the strikeforce matches and howcome with UFC they have like this:

UFC 100, UFC 110, UFC 111, UFC 112, UFC 113 and so on and then they also have this:

UFC Ultimate Fight Night 22, whats the difference between a UFC 100 match and a UFC Ultimate Fight Night 22?

I know they also have that TUF program but I understand what that is.

Also is there any websites that are free and legal that you know of where I can watch UFC matches, ultimate fight night matches, and TUF shows and also strikeforce matches?

And you know how with UFC theres like 3 different things to watch as I just explained, well does strikeforce have other things to watch, or just strikeforce matches?

wow if u missed strikeforce you need to go back in time and watch the Urija Faber fights and this Aldo dude too. some of the best ever MMA matches i have seen have occured in SF.
 
UFC generally have 3 events like you stated, numbered events UFC 119 for example, this will generally be a ppv in america and will usually be headlined by a championship match

Fight night, these happen less frequently then the big cards and are generally the lesser known/upcoming fighters. These events are aired free on spike in america

The ultimate fighter is a reality show also shown on spike.


Strikeforce have two event types, their big cards which are either named after the location, or some weird name like; Heavy artillery.
There other events are called strikeforce challengers, againg upcoming talent is shown.

I don't know of any way to watch strikeforce on uk tv atm though.


As far watching fights online, I'm not sure you can legally do that for either of them, but youtube has an abundance of strikeforce videos, the ufc ones get taken off by zuffa very quickly.

They both fight in WEC not strikeforce.


The UFC and Strikeforce are both organisations competing against each other but their fighters do not fight each other while under contract with either.

Check out some of the old Pride / Dream / Sengoku fights too if you get a chance. Especially Pride :cool:

They have 4 now :p

UFC on Versus: Basically just a UFC event shown on the Versus Network in the US I believe.
 
Different promotions, like WCW and WWF used to be.

WEC is the little sister of the UFC, which has the "lighter weight classes" (someone correct me if im wrong here). Strikeforce is a seperate promo, with a lot of reject fighters from the UFC (Babalu, Barnett, etc) but has some good fighters still such as Feijao, Fedor, UBEReem, Werdum, etc. But their commentary team are cringeworthy.

Then you had PRIDE, since defunct, operating as a Japanese promotion until its demise and its carcass was subsequently picked by the UFC bringing Henderson, Denis Kang, Shogun, Cro Cop, etc to the UFC. Few others such as Pancrase, etc along with the badly ran and now dead "Affliction" events.

There are others too if i can remember them.

The UFC actually bought Pride and bought out the fighters contracts.
 
Yup plenty of organizations out there strike force and especially ufc are just 2 of them but they are the more popular ones so is WEC.

Strikeforce is soon to release there own Reality show which they claim will be a lot more different to TUF, or as I like to imagine it UFC beat them to it so they gotta be different ;)

Dont be shocked when you see girls fighting in StrikeForce either, also don't forget to check out the hot female referee in StrikeForce either.

If your just getting into the world of MMA, id advise you look for the DVDs ie Top UFC fights 2008,09, etc and also take a crazy and wild look back at UFC 1 with Royce Gracie, if you ever want too see a small skinny bloke take out guys 2-3x bigger them himself and dominate them and win you will soon find out why MMA is the greatest sport on this planet !
