3D blu-ray playback coming to PS3 via firmware 3.5 on Sept 21st

Hmmm

Maybe cross game chat, ITV player and working with the BBC to remove the timer in the bottom left corner of the screen might be more useful to the UK PS3 community.

3D is all well and good, but not many own a 3DTV yet, limited number of films and actually is the PS3 HDMI 1.3 up to spec? I though HDMI 1.4 was needed for 3DTV BD playback, but I might be wrong..

You're right. I'm not quite sure how they're getting 3D through the 1.3 output, and I can bet there will be a lot of hardware manufacturers waiting to see it too.

It's increadble just how forward compatible my PS3 has been since i bought my 60Gb phat for £350, best value system i have ever bought....EVER

Its funny but I read somewhere about a few complaining about how Sony take away...

Yet, here we are a few years on and the PS3 has given -

in game trophies
3D Gaming support
3D BD Playback support
motion sense move camera
motion controller
Force Feedback controller
Vidzone
Sony Home
BBC iplayer, in partnership with BBC

and all they've taken away is -

Using USB to enable homebrew, you can't blame them
Linux support - I was a bit on the fence with this
some USB slots and card reader support on newer models

The only one I thought they took away that would have been nice was PS2 support.

Sony have given a lot to the PS3, it has been a very good machine in terms of getting support from Sony. When first released it was to be honest ahead of its time. It was a machine that still needed work, but 2010 and Sony have, to be fair done a good job getting a very sub standard console back up to scratch.. This will go down in history as the recovery of the century in the games console market..

I'm sure there are lots more Sony added that I forgot.

Oh, PSN store gets better and better, PSN + as it does give some rather decent games each month for a one off payment of £40

Free online network...

What's the cost of an average 3DTV? I'm not really up on the tech and I'd rather not sit in my living room wearing a stupid pair of glasses to watch TV. I can't imagine they're very widespread yet?

I had laser eye surgery to get rid of glasses! ;) :p

You still need to wear the glasses with the 3DTVs.

Huh that's a lot cheaper than I was expecting, I thought they were thousands! How many pairs of glasses do you tend to get with a set?

Just over 800 squid for a 3D TV ? Really? Thought they were a lot more then this.

Oh well, least the ones who've got a 3DTV and a PS3 are in for a freebie if nothing else.

Guess it'll be like SD owners running a PS3, compared to HD PS3 owners. HD Ps3 owners can dream of becoming 3D owners soon, and enjoy all the spoils of 3D PS3.. Erm, just what games do support PS3 3D? lol

Isn't 3D gaming limited to 720p as I think wipeout HD is a 3D game, but its no longer in 180p mode, but 720p mode. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Samsung I've had my eye on is £950 but includes 2 x pair of glasses and a BD (Monsters Vs Aliens)

First time I experienced 3D other than going to the cinema (Avatar) was last week and it totally blew me away. I was not impressed with Avatar in 3D but the BD I watched (Astro Boy) was incredible in 3D.

Didn't even notice the glasses, where as in the cinema they irritated the hell out of me.

Don't know how good the games will be in 3D but I've heard good things of Killzone & Motorstorm :)

if its the Samsung 40 inch LE40C750 it is on offer with a free blu ray player if you look ( just think where panda,s live ):D

I just ordered a hdmi 1.4 as well im sure there will be another device which might use it in the future :o still waiting on my Move controller :(

The Zoo? I've not seen a store with that name.
China? hmmm
Blackpool pier? Yeah, I'm not following.

Anyway on topic. Was looking at said samsung TV on a website beginning with 'D' and rhyming with Hixons. They have it on there with 2 pairs of glasses for about £1050 I think it was, which wasn't the £1500 I was expecting. I'm seriously tempted but I'd like to see it in action before I bought it, It's about time some stores had it set up to try and push people into buying 3D tbh.

Only downside is the size, I'd be paying out for no gain in size, if it was 47"+ then I'd probably have it already.

As far as I'm aware 3-D is easily handled by 1.3 HDMI, the only thing it can't do compared to 1.4 is the ethernet (and quite possibly audio return, not 100% sure about that)
