The AA "Parts & garage cover" - Any good?

If you can afford to save £800 every month just for a car, what on earth are you doing driving a Fiat?

I obviously couldn't when I purchased the car at 19, I was limited by insurance and had different needs and wants.

I hopefully won't be driving it for too much longer.

Are there any mileage or age limitations? This would have been ideal when the power steering pump went on my 325i last week, but it's done 150,000 miles. I fixed it myself for ~£140 including a new belt so I would have been quids in and no dirty hands if the AA would have covered it.

I currently have RAC cover but this seems a bargain. No warranty company will touch the car with a decent policy.

You need a stamped service book for this cover dont you \??

No, you need to have proof that your car has been serviced at a VAT registered garage for the duration of your ownership.

It gets more expensive after 100k miles. Not sure if they cover cars over 10 years old though.

Fair enough.

@Wicksta: I belive that 10 years and 100K miles incur extra costs, but are still covered. When I put in my reg and miles (8yo & 41K) it didn't change from the price before it knew anything.

http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/ is the page on it and http://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/pdfs/breakdown-repair-cover-policy-jan-2010.pdf is the Terms and Conditions document. The exclusions list actually has less in it than I was expecting :).

Exactly my situation. The cover cost is increased by about £25 a year if your car is over 100k or 10 years old but otherwise.. no limits.

The big catch is that it only covers items which break down and prevent the vehicle completing the journey safely.

What sort of thing is this likely to catch you out on? I figured that it meant you couldn't get the pixels on your OBC fixed etc. But as far as mechanical things go, as long as its not just a niggle you could normally stretch to say it'd be unsafe to complete your journey without it.

Wheel bearings, AC, electrics, etc I would imagine you wont get any joy with.

Oddly though the Condenser is listed as covered - I cannot think of a way in which it could cause the car to break down tho, very odd.
