Hi guys, I've got an interview next week at ITV Sport and have been doing my research! So far here are the areas I have covered. I would be highly grateful if anyone had any further suggestions as to what more I could research!?

So far...

In what year was ITV established?

1955. (Oldest British broadcasting company)

Who holds the 15 Licenses at ITV?

In 2004 Granada and Carlton formed to establish ITVplc which hold 11 of the 15 licenses, the other 4 are held by Scottish and Irish companies.

Name at least 4 television shows which ITV broadcast.

Loose Women, X Factor, Celebrity Juice & Coronation Street.

Formula 1

Name the two drivers of the following Formula 1 teams.

Red Bull – Vettel / Webber

Mcclaren – Hamilton / Button

Ferrari – Alonson / Massa

Williams – Barichello - Holkenburg

Lotus- Kovaleinen / Trulli

Mercedes – Schumacer / Rosberg (REPLACED BRAWN)

Renault- Kubica / Petrov

Give a brief description of the F1 2010 campaign.

The 2010 campaign has been as entertaining as ever with a potential of 5 drivers going for the world championship (Button , Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel)

There has been ongoing tension between Webber and Vettal.
Driving together for red bull racing, there have been many debates suggesting that RBR favor vettel as a driver as demonstrated by Red Bull’s tactical decisions such as giving Vettel the car that was said to be running faster. However, Webber had the last laugh as he went on to win the race with the ‘slower’ car. After the race he said on the radio ‘ Not bad for a number 2 driver’. He is currently first in the constructors having overtaken Hamilton who crashed on the first lap at Monza.

Two British drivers driving for Merclaren

Button and Hamilton have an ongoing rivalry but it seems to be a genuine rivalry that invokes competition and motivation for each other to succeed, juxtaposed to the bitter relationship between red bulls drivers.

The return of Michael Schumacher

The 7-time world champion decided to come back to formula. He was originally going to replace Massa and re-join Ferrari but joined Mercedes in the end, which is run by Ross Brawn.

Last year the title was won by Button for the first time.

Football

What areas of football do ITV cover?

F.A Cup and English international campaign (with BBC) ITV hold exclusivity for the terrestrial rights of the Champions League. ITV also show the Europa league alongside channel 5.

Champions League

2010 Winners – Inter Milan (vs Bayern Munich)
2009- Barcelona - (Mancester United)
2008 – Manchester United (Chelsea)
2007- AC Milan ( Liverpool)

The champions league is the highest club level tournament for the top teams in Europe. The final along with the NFL’s final is the most watched sports event on television drawing over 100 million viewers. (at club level)

Real Madrid have won it the most (9 times)

F.A Cup

The F.A Cup is the most prestigious domestic competition in England. Teams from the premier league to conference enter, the tournament is so special because there are no seeds which means the minnow teams have the chance to progress if they are to receive a fortunate draw.

Winners qualify for the UEFA Cup.

Manchester united – 11 wins
Arsenal – 10
Tottenham – 8
Liverpool- 7
Villa- 7
Chelsea- 6 (also won the league 4 times and the league cup 4 times)
Newcastle- 6

Europa League

The Europa League is the second most prestigious club tournament. Last year it was won by Athletico Madrid who beat Fulham 2-1 AET. This was a particularly enjoyable year for the English fans as Fulham exceeded all their expectations.

Inter Milan, Liverpool and Juventus share the record of winning the cup 3 times. Tottenham were the first club to win the trophy.

World Cup

The most prestigious cup at international leveL. Many players consider the world cup to be the pinnacle of football. The inaugural tournament took place in 1930 and has been played every 4 years since apart from 1942 and 1946 due to the World War. The current champions are Spain and they will defend the cup in 2014 in Brazil

Brazil -5
Italy-4
Germany-3
England- 1

Give a brief description of England’s performance in the world cup.

Where do I start? Formation? The manager’s squad selection? The performance of the players?

Personally, I believe that it was a combination of the above as to why England flopped on the biggest stage in world football. Firstly, Capello’s squad choice was baffling, choosing to select Shaun Wright Phillips and Heskey over the likes of Ashley young and Darren Bent who both were in better ‘form’ after promising he would choose the players who were in the best form.

Aside from the actual squad, Capello’s starting 11 and tactical decisions came under fire from the fans and pundits. How many times was the question asked, why isn’t Gerrard playing behind Rooney? The question was futile, Capello was adamant that he had the correct formation and players to win the tourament and was too stubborn to listen to the suggestions of the clueless fans. The choice to start Emile Heskey, Robert Green and Matt Uspon was also met with objections. Darren Bent had scored significantly more goals than Heskey, Dawson had his best ever season for spurs and Joe Hart was voted premier league keeper of the season and was also nominated for the young PFA player of the year award.

England were playing without a natural defensive midfielder, one natural winger and playing one of the best attacking midfielders in the world out of position.

When England were drawn against Algeria, Slovakia and the Yanks, the headline in the Sun was EASY, each letter representing one of the nations. As it turned out, it was far from easy, England could have been defeated by USA, gave their most abysmal display I’ve ever seen against Algeria and only managed to score the single goal against Slovakia.

When it eventually came to the game against Germany England didn’t stand a chance. Despite England having more possession, shots on target and a goal which clearly crossed the line disallowed, the England fans who aren’t delusional accepted that Germany were the superior team on the night. Ozil, Klose, Podolski and Muller ran John Terry, Upson and Glen Johnson ragged. A night and tournament to forget.

It's a job at ITV within the sports department, I'm sure there are many areas that need to be covered. I've just graduated studying Film and Television.

Going to actually offer any helpful suggestions or just going to be an arse?

hes right to be fair. you need to know more about yourself than you do about each individual sport. id imagine the sort of technical questions they may ask will be stuff you know. they are not going to be trying to catch you out.

It's McLaren not Merclaren (or did you mean this as a portmanteau?)

I guess some questions that might come up would be:

- How do ITV make money?
- What are the most pressing issues facing ITV at the moment?
- Who are ITV's main competitors?

P.S. Did you mean to post this thread in Music, Box Office and TV rather than the Sports Arena or GD?

He's right that they are going to ask me about tea making techniques?

Thanks, yes I did post it here intentionally. Music, Box Office and TV. :)

True but I gathered it was for talking about TV programmes rather than the TV industry :p Good luck in the interview btw, my sis works for ITV in Manchester - factuals though not sport.

If it's a proper interview, surely it's going to be a competency-based test of the kind of guy you are, rather than a who-knows-what trivia challenge?

Tell me about a time you organised a group in a production and the kind of challenges you overcame.
How would you deal with a difficult director?
Tell me about your experiences managing a budget?
How do you go about learning new skills?
To what extend to you feel you enjoy working in a team?

Obviously, but are you telling me that I shouldn't be knowledgeable about certain sports when going for a job at ITV Sport? Can't hurt can it.

Thanks for the question suggestions.

No. I am answering your question. I love the leaps that people perform on this forum. You've gone from me suggesting another angle to saying that I'm suggesting you 'shouldn't be knowledgeable about certain sports'.

There are going to be girls there. Are you saying you believe that being a walking human football encyclopedia, is going to see you through? They'll be testing human characteristics also.

Is this the kind of guy that can work in our team?
Does he show a passion based on evidence rather than constantly reciting 'I really want this'?
Can he take aggressive questioning without sounding like a proper arse? ;)
