Sacha Baron Cohen to play freddy murcury in Queen Film

Hmm should be interesting to see him as a serious actor as I'm sure it will probably be a drama...

Hope he doesn't mess it up :p

He’s certainly got talent and with what looks to be a promising script he may well pull it off. Added to my one to watch list.

There are lots of comedians whos serious roles in films are much better than their comedy roles. Jim carry in Man on the Moon, truman show. Adam sandler in Punch drunk Love, Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting and dead poets society and Eddie muprhy in Norbit(well I didn't laugh).

So although I am not a massive fan of his work I am sure that he will do good, he's a clever bloke and will work hard on it.

Also add Eric Bana was on a TV sketch comedy show and standup comedian in Australia.

It'll be interesting and I'm sure he'll be good as he was able to convince people that his Borat persona was real ;)

He's a Cambridge educated traditionally raised Jew from a fairly emminent family, who has through the course of his career convinced various people of high standing that he is Ali G, Borat or Bruno, and people are questioning whether he can act?

All of those were comedy roles he was acting out and fantastically well but we've never seen him do a serious role this is why I'm a bit wary.

Good point and I think he's a great choice. Unlike Russell Brand in the Hollywood remake of Arthur, Dudley will be spinning.

Sascha Baron Cohen is a genius actor although I doubt many will view him that way.

He is flawless in the parts he plays and how he does it with a straight face I don't know.

I don't think it will take much of a tweak to push him into serious acting and I have no doubt he will do it without a problem.

sacha baron cohen in his own right is mildly good, but as a freddy mercury, NO NO NO NO! shouldn't be allowed at all

( no particular reasons behind it, but i've always known mercury to be serious about his career and music, whilst cohen, not so )

As others have pointed out many comedians do fantastically well in serious roles. Another example could be Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine or I love Phillip Morris.

He was in Tallegdha Heights (racing movie?) and played the bad guy more seriously than Borat or Bruno.
