Hi,
I've been developing a photographic light meter app for Android, posting a beta a while back. It has got the stage where it is almost ready for release, so I want to ask for your help with a spot of beta testing to work out the kinks!

The app can be downloaded here (just unzip the apk, put it on your sd card and install from there).

In a nutshell, what the app does is take a reading of the current light level, and display the correct exposure settings, it can also be used as a regular exposure and depth of field calculator. It should be fairly intuitive to use, but if you have any problems just post up and I'll try and help!

Ideally what I need is the make and model of your phone, if metering worked, how (in)accurate the metering was and any other comments/notes

Note: Landscape orientation is not finished, so expect weird layout issues there!

Thanks for the help!

Hi, there were 2 files and I wasn't sure which too install. Installed one which worked. Bit unsure what to put in settings with camera and device type. I know what f-stops and shutter speeds mean but I guess I've never used a real meter before so not sure what every thing means

I gave it a try and it seems to work well enough but I get the same information through my viewfinder on my canon 40D though!

Could be very interesting for me going out with my MF C220 though, no need for a dedicated light meter or DSLR as well, if it's accurate. Don't have Android to try it on though.:)

Dono if i'm doin something wrong but it's giving me the same reading no matter what lighting conditions i'm in. Curtains open, curtain closed, under desk...

It doesn't take a reading using any sensors :p

You use the optical trackball or joystick to adjust your aperture/shutter and it gives you the ideal values for the other.

Unless it does ¬_¬ but I didn't see that on my Desire.

I presume it's supposed to.

It is supposed to, pressing vol-up for trackball/dpad centre meters, however it uses the Android API for getting meter readings, which HTC (amongst overs) have decided not to implement. It should inform you if metering is disabled, is it not on the desire?

Remember that metering is only accurate as the hardware, which on the most phones is not very. The app is meant as a bit of fun mainly, but also being useful as a depth of field calculator and for seeing the combinations of shutter/aperture/iso you can have.

Version 0.1 Beta is now in the market, any bugs please let me know, either here or through the market.

Thanks for the help so far!
