4090 on 850w = BOOM
I have the asus gtx 480 for a couple of days now and when in games sometimes the fan hits 92% and i hate it. This is at stock speeds in an antec 902 case with max fan speeds and a titan fenrir.

I want to turn the card to 800/1600/2000 without it hitting 104 degrees and maxing the fan all the time to cool it down. I just can't play with this noise.

I'm happy to replace the stock cooler with a solution under £100 in cost and want to know what the best options in the world are right now or coming soon for aftermarket 480 gtx air coolers.

use msi afterburner to create a custom fan profile and take the side of the case off and it won't be anywhere near as high

Wont be very long till the Gelid IV is available around 7 days time
The Zalman has not been on sale anyway in the UK yet so that could be months away

Either the Gelid Icy Vision or the Zalman VF3000F, but good luck in tracking down either at the moment, they're both rarer than rocking horse s*** ;)
Avoid the gelid, it doesn't make proper contact with the gf100 core. That is unless you want to burn out your 480 while loosing the warranty.

vf3000 isn't on sale for nvidia for the simple reason, zotac have a deal with them.

You say this and ive read this somewhere but that was for the GTX 470 not a 480?

Also reading some of the US forums many many people are happy with the Gelid and are not mentioning this problem

When i have the Gelid Icy Vision i will report back and let you all know that it fits a 480 perfectly:)

i tried a few things and settled for lowering stock voltage but still keeping it clocked high. did wonders and seems to be stable and never got higher than 93 degrees in last nights long gaming sesh. seems stable so far.

Have you tried using MSI for setting your own custom fan profile? If I'm not mistaken, the default fan profile is that the fan speed doesn't increase too much until the temp hitting 90C, at which point the fan would be working overtime to try to push the temp down.

You could try setting custom fan profile so that the fan would increase speed more at earlier stage gradually than having the fan working overtime at a last minute job.
