Edinburgh gyms (recommendations)

Looking for some recommendations for gyms in Edinburgh please folks. Seems impossible to find out prices for most without submitting all my details and then getting harassed by phone for the next 50 years! All I'm interested in is free weights as I couldn't care less about pools/saunas, and I get plenty of cardio done outdoors...where it should be done!

Best I've seen so far if for the Edin Uni gym which works out to around £30p/m and is quite appealing as they seem to be well equipped. Also being a uni gym it hopefully wont be full of what I like to call "gym *****" (sure you all know the type of person I mean).

Just wondering what sort of prices people are paying for places like Virgin/David Lloyd ect these days? Remember I used to pay £25pm for DL when I was under 18, but sure that membership will be through the roof now.

Also if anyone knows of any less mainstream places that are cheap and well equipped, then I'd love to hear about them!
 
Im sure all chain gyms will be very expensive and far more than £30/month. I've heard from one of my friends that goes that edinburgh gym is very well equipped in regard to free weights.
 
Ye does look really good for the price and apparently has just been refurbished as well. Gutted I didn't study at home now as the graduate membership is £15pm!

Think I'll probably go up for a look around tomo unless someone can tell me about some hidden gem somewhere in the city.
 
I think that Edinburgh Uni is probably your best bet, as The Craig says all chain gyms tend to be far more expensive and often have less in the way of free weights anyway. I used to go to the Fitness First attached to the Hilton years back because my employer had a deal with them so it only cost me about £20 p/m which was a lot less than half price - it was pretty nice but little in the way of free weights and you're paying for the setting as much as anything.
 
There are bound to be a couple of proper gyms around. There used to be a big list on muscletalk, have a scout around on there :)
 
marcos gym if its still called that got all the free weights that you need, cannae mind its address, just know how to get there. ;)

Well idk what his goals are? if its bbing then hes probs better with a bbing gym, i used to train at bannatynes but what a crap gym, poor atmosphere, rubbish music, crap equipment and ram raided full of douche bags who dont have a clue hogging all equipment. i changed to a bbing gym proper hardcore, no cardio equipment just heavyyy weight, 100 times better atmosphere to train a lot more encouragement everyones there for same thing, any music you want, best solid old school equipment which is what you want and for what 20 quid a month?

i trained at uni gyms a few times and honestly you can never get on anything always rammed packed when i went anyway so gave up with that.
