Linkin Park - A Thousand Suns

Picked this up last night and listening to it now - just going into track 3, reserving judgement for now.

EDIT: Ok just listened through it once and it's certainly different to their previous material - not heavy at all. Not even sure if it fits into a metal mould anymore.

Gonna listen some more, might be a grower.

Will post a picture later :-)

Just got to wait for the limited edition deluxe box set now :-)

The album get's better every time i play it and it's like the guys have said it's better played in one go. That's why I only listen to the full experience track.

I've listened to the album twice straight through... still think it's hugely disappointing :(

I do enjoy the experience where all the songs blend well together - but there just isn't anything that stands out for me that says it's an epic album :(

I think bulb66 is excited enough for all of us :p

I'm starting to think Bulb66 is just Chester in disguise :p

LOL :p

Can i just ask to those who are not liking the album, what don't you like?

I mean did you want another Hybrid Theory or something? because that's never going to happen. Just listen to "When They Come For Me" Mike's got a message for you, lol

'cause even a blueprint is a gift and a curse
'cause what you got a theory about how the thing works
Everybody wants the next thing to be just like the first
And i'm not a robot, i'm not a monkey

Given this album a good listen to now and i have to say....i love it ! I much prefer it to minutes to midnight (and that was a good album).

Saw Linkin Park at Sheffield Arena and Milton Keynes bowl (with Jay-Z), and now ive just bought a ticket for November at the MEN :D

I hear a lot of people complaining that they don't like the fact that the songs don't sound the same as the Hybrid Theory album, but how many bands that have been around as long as Linkin Park or longer still carry the same sound?

Even Metallica, another band i love and have seen live changed their sound and although Death Magnetic was said to be a lot like there older stuff it's still different.

Linkin Park with their different side projects (Fort minor, Dead by Sunrise) and the collaboration work they have done with Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes etc and film soundtracks are going to pick up new styles and want to try new things.

I for one as a FAN welcome this.

Metallica changed their sound subtly, until St.Anger was released which did them no favours as it was horrendous. Death Magnetic saved them because it actually sounded like them.

People can like Hybrid theory and dislike A thousand suns. I'm a Metallica nut and I hated St.Anger with a passion.

Well i've just finished my first listen.

Not impressed at all. Awful, useless filler tracks, When They Come for Me is terrible.

I loved Hybrid Theory and Meteora, Minutes to Midnight grew on me. I hope this will be a bit more of a grower, but i'm not holding out much hope.

The album's just...so uninspiring i guess.

Death Magnetic was pretty rubbish though and jesus christ they should have fired that producer. Awful production.

The level of quality between the various Metallica albums differs so much.

and now more on topic; this album is crap. :p

Actually, in case of Metallica, they actually not had start-to-end well recorded and produced album ever since they made it big. Ever since Master Of Puppets they were either made to sound like the whole album was done on one guitar with one console preset (Black Album, Load, Reload) or like the entire album was done in 50 minutes session with borrowed gear in a basement on Denmark Street and then mixed by drunk monkey (St. Anger). I've heard incredibly well recorded and produced live versions from Metallica, sometimes even entire, multi disc live albums, like Binge & Purge or (love it or hate it for arrangements, but judge it by sound) S&M - dynamic, excellent spacial mixes, great range of instruments used to achieve particular sounds etc - but the studio albums, in terms of mix and production are just dire, dry, monotonous and horrible.

Death Magnetic was excellent example - some random internet chaps made a better downmix of the album using Guitar Hero tracks than multimillion production house.

the black album is excellently produced, even today it remains one of the best albums ever produced. the entire album is fantastic and was leagues ahead of anything they've released before or since. It peaked with the black album and starting with load, the production steadily dropped again until St. Anger was released and that is so far beyond rubbish it's untrue. Death Magnetic was a lot better than St. Anger but even still, it was painfully poor.

I agree on the production, it was terrible. even ripping in FLAC couldn't do some songs justice because the SQ was just terrible.

however the songs were pretty good, especially in comparison to St.Anger because after waiting so long for them to release another album and then hearing that.. Dissapointed was too light a word to explain the dismay I felt.

That's what i like to see a a healthy debate on important topics, lol

Oh and i'm still enjoying this album, i'm seeing a lot of people saying the same thing about them not liking it and that LP are crap. personally i'm a massive fan and anything they make i will buy and promote and while i don't agree that this album sucks maybe LP will and come back with an outstanding rock album next time?
