Ken Block - what do you think of him?

A sell out best known for some Youtube and Top Gear clips.
How is he a sell out?
no hes doing rallying for FUN. he made a billion$ buisness out of nothing and is having fun spending his cash on the thing he loves doing. he doesnt claim to be the best or claim to be anything at all infact. its not his fault the internet became obsessed

This pretty much sums it up for me.

Plus he's only been in the WRC for 1 year, give him chance to find his feet at least.

I like his style, enjoy the vids and quite like the whole "brand" thing he is putting out there. Who cares whether he is the stig at racing or not, he's out to have fun and many people enjoy the entertainment.

I think I fall into the "Hater" category.

Given the time and resources that he has, anyone could do what he does.

Sums up my views too. Really don't see the appeal of his videos either.

Not that he is doing any harm to anyone, he's just having fun and I can't say I wouldn't do the same in his position.

Absolutely......but he's not going around saying he's a driving god with bags of talent more than everyone else. He is just doing what you'd do so why should you hate him for it?

I don't follow WRC any more, or Rally America so can't comment on his driving as competitive force.

His gymkhana videos are entertaining, slick, well produced and fun to watch. Good demonstrations of car control and general dicking around. He obviously has excellent car control - be it through practice or skill - probably a combination of both.

No opinion of him as a person, I've not really seen a huge number of interviews with him to form an opinion from.

I wouldn't be surprised if a large proportion of the posters in Motors would be too afraid to even attempt a handbrake turn in a deserted car park let alone some of the things shown in Block's videos..... so I tend to take their opinion of driving ability with a rather large pinch of internet salt :p

Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Mario Andretti and Mark Donohue, you can keep every other American (from the USA) racing driver in my, somewhat sweeping, book of Housey excellence.

I don't "hate" him, but I just don't think that what he does it is massively special.

Given the right editing and special effects and I could make a drive to my local Tesco look interesting.

GOOD GRIEF.

Why the whine?

Are the videos entertaining? Yes.
Are they well produced? Yes.
Well edited? Yes.

It's all a bit of fun with a mental WRC un-restricted car for entertainment purposes. His not doing it and saying "Yeah look at me, I can do this and am clearly an awesome Rally driver". It's marketing with a shedload of "Ooooh" and "Ahhh" and "Hell yeahs" thrown in and all you lot can do is pick apart at his competitive side, that he "wastes money and time". Hell, if I had his money I would be doing EXACTLY what he is doing, or should I be proper and invest it? Get real.

Why all the bitterness? Bunch of internet warriors who pick apart at everything like you know/can do better. A bunch of younger types with a clapped out car, low budget and some filming savvy did the same sort of deal yet you don't aim the same hate at them.
