Its just struck me, as I keep having to call my brother over to look at computer issues, that I'm loosing touch a little, I used to be quite knowledgeable with computers a few years back, built quite a few computers and used to be able to sort most issues with them, etc, but this was going back a few years, 2000-2005 ish when I was a geeky teenager... but now my athlon xp computer is confined the the garage, win98 and even xp are considered old hat, html seems to natively support flash style animation, the viruses that are about move in even more secret and distructive ways and the last motherboard I bought didn't even have a serial or parallel port:( ... just feel like I'm loosing touch with it all since I got past 20, entered a career with very little to do with computers, etc

Anyone else have the same problem? and is there a cure? :P

& No. For example if you pirate, in future we won't get photoshop made. Why?

Nobody buys it > Nobody makes monies > Nobody make monies, nobody bother makes it. > Nobody makes it means no more photoshop.

How do we solve this? If ye can't afford CS5 master suite. Buy elements. It's 99% as good. 10% of the price.

Seems likely! In response to the OP, I am the same. I was never an expert by any means, but I have no idea about anything since XP, hardware or software.

i am no longer interested anymore on how it works, don't care if the RAM sticks run in parallel mhz, whether the drivers for the GFX are the latest release, or if i can upgrade my Soundcard to 7.1 speakers. Hence i got a mac.

Keeping a computing running isn't fun, its a waste of time, it should be serving us, not us serving it.

This isn't a PC vs Mac thread, but....I haven't done ANY PC maintenance since i got my Mac, over a year ago.

Same sort of thing - completely lost interest in keeping my PC up to spec. Currently have a P4 2.8 gig - don't even have windows on it (use linux, no more 'is my firewall / updates running before I connect to the net) - does me, browse the net, download rubbish.

The only interest I've got at the moment is possibly replacing it with a silent form factor machine, ideally something like an atom, thats just as quick, but uses almost no power.

This.

I used to build my own PCs, streamline windows, office and driver installs into one package, tweak, overclock, etc etc.

Then I realised it was all a bit of a waste of time. Got an iMac in 2007 and now use a Macbook Pro as my main computer. Wouldn't look back.

Ditto except buying the Mac. I simply use my comps to browse the net, listen to music and watch DVDs these days.

I have no desire to build new PCs, fiddle with overclocking, anything like that anymore. I just want a system that works, lets me browse the internet, watch videos and do work on.

I work with computers all day, when I started I was very interested. Now however I only really tend to find out bout stuff I need to know for my job which has left me with a fairly narrow knowledge set.

Things like sharing printers over a home network always leave scratching my head. I couldn't tell what's a good graphics card, and I now need to look up the code to see if a CPU is any good of not (although I think that might just be because they've got more baffling over the last few years).

I am coming round to the idea of a Mac, until I start comparing specs.

Losing, not loosing.

Sorry, I wouldn't usually post to correct someone's spelling but you made the same mistake a few times and hope this helps you in the future.

I used to spend ages fiddling all the time with PCs etc ... now, while I still like building a PC now and then I now just want things to work and run as stably as possible without having to fiddle with it all the time.
