I'm off to Silverstone today to drive a Aston Martin Vanquish,

I've never driven anything seriously quick before and am quite excited.

I suspect there's a few on here that have done this sort of thing, i am well aware that i will only get about 8 minutes in the car.

There's a group of four of is going so a bit of competition on who get's the fastest lap and £300 for whoever manages to roll it. (i'll certainly be paying the £10 extra to zero the excess)

so what are other peoples experiences like with this sort of thing?

(oh and the new car i was going to have has turned into a new kitchen now :( )

It'll be pretty crappy really, you wont get to push the car and it'll be over before you even get used to the circuit.

Thats pretty much my opinion on these "experiance" days, especially after a few of my friends at work have done them. They ALL seem crap. Id rather spend the hard earned on a trackday in my own car.

I'm on the edge of changing my mind about buying one (the experience day, not the car :P). But i'm sure the package i was looking at had about an hour in the car, 20 mins of teaching from the instructor. How much is this costing you?

These events are money for old rope and really are very poor value. There are of course exceptions but the standard Red Letter Day affairs seem to be very little time in the car with little to no opportunity to push the cars, often because you have finished just when you're getting comfy. I know a few people who've done these events and the common feedback I get is dissapointed and very poor value. This one may be different of course.

Sadly you'll be disappointed. The instructor will tell you to keep it in third gear all the way round to limit any potential wear and tear and your time will soon be over. The only decent one I did was the AMG day at MB world where the instructors don't care much for the state of the cars and you learn some useful driving techniques.

do a JP day as suggested, costs a lot but it's awesome fun, you can thrash the pants off the cars and the instructors sitting next to you actively encouraging you to and I quote "drive it like you stole it", had a massive off in an evo there, smashed through a wooden sign and the front splitter went into basking shark mode gobbling up half the nearby vegetation, the instructor got out and just laughed "now that was a corner!!" didn't pay a penny for repairs and won a trophy for my efforts :D

enjoy the aston I miss the db9 I had, if only for the female attention!

Just read about the Palmer Sport one, got well excited about it. Then spotted the price tag. Damn that's a lot of cash :(

Not going to be able to afford to do that.

The JP day I did (and of course got driver of the day and a nice plaque!) was over 800 notes, a red letter day type thing is 37p and crap. Hardly the same thing really but i do agree, JP day is excellent!

Vanquish S is an awesome car, got to drive one all day around Milbrook a few years back as part of an Aston Martin PDC.

Only ever driven a DB9 Volante, not on a track either :( I wonder how noticeably different the rest of the Aston range is to drive on the road? (I'm assuming the difference on a track is quite apparent) I'm assuming for everyday use you don't really feel much of a difference as you never hit the cars potential.
