Because its intermittent it's very difficult to tell, but I did use spare key today and it worked just fine.. But then again, it might have worked just fine with my normal key.

If there was a recall for this issue on your Accord, how come you fixed it yourself?
There was a recall for a number of cars on the vosa site, but it didn't list vin numbers. Honda told me there was no outstanding recalls for mine, so it either wasn't included or had been done in the past and failed again. Wasn't worth spending time arguing as it's a simple job and I needed it sorted.

Why not? It happened to me in a Vauxhall Astra when I was younger and trying to make the car backfire by switching it off and on again - luckily I only brushed a kerb.
Do modern steering locks work differently then? It's certainly not 'nonsense' for some cars so be careful about what advice you give out.
I wouldn't have suggested doing it if I didn't know differently. In most modern cars (the mk3 mondeo is 110% one of them), the lock engages when you remove the key

That's not going to replicate it completely though is it - like does the speedo drop when you turn if off and does it drop when the fault occurs?
On an empty road, when you're paying attention, it should be perfectly safe to try. Just don't do it at night, as the lights WILL turn off
Then it's hardly 'nonsense' is it and there is no 'of course' about it. Someone else driving a car with a mechanical lock might read your post and try it. No need to be so rude about it either.

I just meant to check if the steering locks up - then you can safely try it while driving
That's exactly what happened with my accord. Although it's a common issue on them and I've never heard of it on the mondeo - it was the ignition switch, eg the actual rotary switch the key mechanism bolts to. The interior light coming on ties in with this as the mondeo does that when you turn it off. Worth investigating
My e36 has this issue - the ignition switch is starting to fail - but, I also had a loose battery terminal!

My wife subaru used to cut out doing 70 plus no warning just cut out.
And hazard lights would light up. Subaru replace the speed sensor and it seems to have sorted it.

I've still got enough servo to brake hard at least once so I should be ok
Interior light comes on and hazards work so doubt it
This happened on my ST220. I was down to badly soldered connections between the loom and the instrument cluster. I got a local garage to fix it, cost £100 just for them to take the cluster/dash out, resolder and put back together. They ran a diagnostics, which bumped the price up.
Went and talked to a ford dealership and my local indy yesterday, both said they wanted to check fault codes ford want £45, indy wants £25.
Is it true that if the engine management light didn't come on, no fault codes will be recorded?
If it is, there really isn't much point in getting them checked.

Thing is sometimes it can go for days and nothing, other time 5/6 times in a row then its fine.
I was stopping, fully restarting the car and off again now its annoyed me that much just a quick off and on of the keys fixes it, altho Im not sure if/what damage this could be causing.
I read a lot of focus had this issue but no dea set remedy how can I find out if theres an outstanding recall on the car?
