I’m looking to go away with the gf for a day or two in early November. Last few times we’ve been away in this Country we’ve gone to London, mainly as there’s lots to do and the good public transport. Since then we’ve got a car so we’ve got a lot more freedom so looking to go somewhere a little different.

I live in the South of England (near Portsmouth) and don’t really want to travel much more than 3 hours (4 hours tops) to get there. I wouldn’t mind a city break but think I’d probably prefer more of a countryside getaway just to be a bit different.

Not really got any requirements, would be nice to go for a few walks around the countryside and maybe into a nearby town for a meal or something to do if it’s raining, but open to all suggestions.

Where would you go?

I second Cornwall I love it lived there for 2 years. The Winters are Harsh with the Wind coming off of the Atlantic but theres a certain kind of atmosphere in the winter thats really nice.

Should have said that we're going there some other time when there's a decent rugby match on :D. So will aviod there for now.

Get on a train and go further. 3 hours from Portsmouth doesn't get you far.
Not a fan of trains, we've been getting them for a couple of years now. It makes it very expensive as you have to pay for 2 train tickets, rather than share the price of petrol, and you have to pay loads to get around the other end unless your hotel is right next to the train station...which wouldn't be very nice!

Thanks for your suggestions so far.
