The pope. Popeing about.

At the end of the day you have to take offence. My general thoughts would be "Meh, the guy is a nutter." But instead we had "Oh no! How can you?" and then riots and effigies being burnt...

Unfortunately most are not as enlightened or tolerant of others as we are.

I would think you were a bit of a nutter, but I really wouldn't find it offensive. Why would I? Unless you are specifcally threatening my daughter it is having no direct impact on her. Not to mention my daughter is only a four year old and not a religion with millions of follows and supposedly all powerful God that can look after himself...

But is it not an implied threat.

Bearing in mind we are talking about a God that has little issue with burning things he doesn't like. Bushes, cities, people's souls...

Two officials at the Vatican Bank are being investigated as part of a money-laundering inquiry, reports say.

Rome prosecutors are investigating allegations that money-laundering laws have been broken, judicial sources are quoted as saying by news agencies.

The Vatican Bank, known officially as the Institute for Religious Works, manages accounts for Roman Catholic orders.

There has been no comment from the Vatican on the reports.

The Vatican Bank was last mired in scandal in 1982 when its governor Archbishop Paul Marcinkus was indicted over his involvement with the $3.5bn (£2.25bn) collapse of what was then Italy's largest private bank, Banco Ambrosiano.

The fallout from that scandal took a darker turn when two of its top executives, including its chairman, Roberto Calvi, were murdered.

Calvi, known as God's Banker because of his close ties to the Vatican, was found hanged beneath Blackfriars' Bridge in London. The murder bore the hallmarks of a ritual killing.

Why am I not shocked the Vatican has failed to comment.

I personally wasn't going to call Spawn unelightened or intolerant... :D

But is it not an implied threat.

If it was done as a threat I would need to do something about it. If it was done just to cause offense, I would just think you were a nutter. (Granted threatening four year olds also tends to fall into the "bit of a nutter" category). However, my daughter is four and can't really defend herself in any way. Islam is 1600 years old and Allah is allegedly all powerful. Exactly what sort of threat is burning a Koran to Him?

:D I know, it was only an example.

The act itself is not important, but the intent is, in my opinion. I don't really understand why Muslims or people of any belief get so militant over others being purposely offensive, but I do understand why they get offended and that any act that is specifically aimed at offending any group should be frowned upon and denounced, not encouraged as many did with the Mohammed Cartoons.

Neither would I, just that we may be enlightened and tolerant from a different perspective...

It's not a threat or offence to their God, but to them as a group, much like hanging nooses in front of burning crucifixes by the KKK, or anti gay protests and so on.

Why though? What does it matter if someone finds your religion stupid, silly, burns the Koran, draws a cartoon of Mohammed or any of a number of things that can cause offense to the religious? If God cares he will do something about it, if you are secure enough in your faith what should it matter if others think it silly?

Dont know about you but ive been raised to respectfully question other peoples beliefs if i feel the need to, which to be fair i dont because my attitude is live and let live etc. Its fine if you think its perfectly ok to go round insulting people for their beliefs and of course actions like draw a prophet or burn the Quran day etc etc are going to cause tensions because like Castiel said others arent as tolerant as we are.

Personally i find it sad and pathetic that people cant accept others beliefs without belittling them or insulting them.

But on the other hand you are right...it really doesnt make a blind bit of difference to me at the end of the day but im an arguementative sod so will fight my corner lol.

I don't. Many people find your 'beliefs' a bit mental, so it's hardly surprising people don't react well to them.

Live and let live... yeah, but that wont stop me from thinking you're a few sandwiches short of a picnic, you know?

Why react at all. If you find them a little nuts or can't understand or comprehend them simply ignore it and move on, instead of saying "I know I don't get it, but lets rile them up a little to see what happens!"

Well your a prime example of someone who i would actively distance myself from...but saying that your entitled to have your views much like the views i have of people like yourself:).

It isn't that easy when they knock on your door.

Well it is...just kindly tell them that you arent interested??

Its funny i get quite a few jehovahs coming to my door but not once have i or my mum ever insulted them, slammed the door in their face...we just tell them sorry we are muslim and that usually makes them go on their way and if they are insistent then we kindly tell them we are not interested...simple really.

But i do understand that some religious folk cant take a hint so sometimes a more direct approach is needed...

Just say 'No Thank-you' and close the door.

I can't say I have ever experienced a door to door Muslim recruiter however, but if that is reason enough to insult them why are we not burning Kirby Hoover manuals and effigies of Double Glazing canvassers.

Part of the problem though is that the Danish Cartoons, the Draw Mohammed Day and, to a lesser extent, the Burn a Koran Day are actually reactions to Islamic pressure on either Free Speech or precieved pressure on another religion. It wasn't something done in isolation just to "rile them up". Obviously some people took the opportunity to do just that, but it shouldn't be needed because the events themselves shouldn't be needed.

Where did I ever say I was rude or mocked them?

The point is I would never dream of knocking on someone's door to discuss my religion, it is offensive.

I quite like the JWs turning up, especially when the come around at Halloween. They really need to start sending people out that have a bit more of a clue of the origins of Halloween and of their own religion...

Well I do ignore them, but if there's a discussion going on... I'll gladly put my 2c in

I wouldn't distance myself from you, but I'd still think you were a bit nuts

Dont you mean 2p??:p...and you do know you can put your 2p in without being insulting or mocking someone??.

Tbh neither would i distance myself from you...it was a tongue in cheek comment but then i wouldnt discuss religion with you or anyone who feels the need to mock others...my boss is a prime example of someone who gets very worked up at the thought of religion and God....i learnt my lesson a few mths ago when we were discussing religion and he got pretty worked up lol.

Of course im much the same as you as i wouldnt dream of knocking on strangers doors to educate them on my religion but from your earlier post i took it that you get wound up by religious folk knocking on your door...apologies if i mis-understood what you were trying to say.
