I am fairly sure the backup is a backup off all users.

Don't for get to sync your trophies (if you care) before you swap out the hard drive as these are not backed up.

Yep it is.
it saves me having to do what I mentioned in post 25.I think that only applies to the Slim as it has less Flash memory so it stores the update on the harddrive.
^^ correcto mungo to this, the older phat's you never had to download the latest OS onto a USB, because it had the hardware to store the OS. The slims have made some cutbacks and the hardware chip has been replaced to a small partition on the drive.
I think it's only the early original PS3s, because my 40GB one needed the firmware on a flash drive when I upgraded the HDD.

That would explain it then.![]()

I think they are backed up, but even if they are not you can re-download them from PSN without cost (for 5 times I think)My girlfriend downloaded some paid for PS1/PS2 games a while back (ABE, Rampage). Will these have been backed up or would she have to download them again, and if so would she need to pay for them again?

To do that you need to go into PSN and go to the top and select 'View downloads' that lists all purchased and downloaded PSN stuff.
