My mate is currently leading a poker tourney with £600,000 prize pool

Sounds good :)

Rotty anywhere in Vegas you'd recommend someone who's not played a 'proper' live game before can go to have a bash?

A week today and we're there :)

I'd never played at a proper table before only on the net but had a wicked time at a $55 tourny in Ceasers Palace poker room, just looked at what time a game was on, walked in and signed up. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and I'd defiantly recommend going there.

Ended up coming 10th out of 191 people, which helped my enjoyment, thou I was buzzing just being there and the cheap drinks while playing more or less covered my entry as it was.

Did you win anything for coming 10th?>

At least 7th is looking good now, 1 player is down to just 6,000 - he had AA against 74 on a board of J-5-4-4-7 :o

Paul's stack at the current break is 161k :)

Nope, WSOPE events are usually played at the Empire Casino in London, I assume it's the same venue this year. It's a live tournament, either way.

I would love to get into poker, it sounds such an awesome game.

I've got a book about learning how to play which I took from an old place I lived in, and I've tried out a few poker games on my laptop. Would take a long time before I had the guts to play for serious money.

There used to be a Sunday night (I beleive?!) Poker club, which was stickied 6 months or so ago (not sure if it's there now). But interest wained.

Play for free if you want to pick up the rules and basic jist. Start playing for reasonably low stakes if you actually want to play poker, as people who play for fun and for free, are generally idiots and you'll learn very little.

Can a game be arranged for people from OcUK who wish to pick this up against real people for free?

Most poker places have play money tables (paddy power, will hill both do I think), thou im my opinion you're much better off playing small stake tables than play money as people normally play stupid stuff when it means nothing.

Seems right I guess, you would just play stupidly if nothing is riding on it.

Impromptu break - they're making the draw for the £10k heads-up event and presenting Jeff Lisandro his bracelet. They've decided to take an hour's dinner break due to all that going on. Back in a bit!

There you go then. It's a better place in general to play your poker and learn the trade, especially up against certain members who are obviouslly very good (Rotty et al).

I'll be picking up poker as soon as the gf disappears back to Uni... good times ahead hopefully.
