For some reason insurance seems to have shot up since last year!
Last year I paid £447 with 2 years no claims. So obviously this year i've got 3 years no claims but everywhere is quoting over £600:eek:
I've tried sites such as comparethemarket and they were a bit cheaper, but why are so called cheaper places like directline so much now?
*edit* I'm 32 as well. Don't know if that'll make any difference.

Depends on where you live, what car you drive, occupation, age, postcode, points on licence, experience, which way the wind is blowing etc.

There isn't a single insurer that is cheaper across the board, just ones that better cater for certain circumstances.

really isn't a question anyone here can answer just go shop around and find a good deal.
ring places and tell them what someone esle has quoted you -£20 or something.

most insurance companies have two sets of discount, one if you have a price elsewhere and one if you dont, worth ringing them up and asking them if they can improve

My renewal with direct line was £600. Price comparison website gave me £450 as cheapest. I then rang up admiral and got a quote for £300. Went back to direct line saying admiral offered me £300 and they managed to knock £100 off, but couldn't budge any further.

So... try admiral. :)

At the moment I'm with Admiral as they offered me the cheapest back in January.
However over the past few years I've used:

Swinton
Norwich Union
More Than

Each time they were the cheapest to insure me.

It's an absolute lottery.

I rang up Admiral last time to renew, having got a few cheaper quotes online. They lowered their price a bit, but couldn't match the cheapest one I had found at the time which was from.... Admiral! (using their website!)

The person on the other end of the phone couldn't understand why I got annoyed that they couldn't match their own price. I moved to Adrian Flux in the end, they were even cheaper!

as long as the majority of the details match admiral will match any price from elephant/admiral/bell/diamond that come in cheaper, only time they wont match is if its a different term, the caller is not happy that the price changes with details that needed to be brought up to date on the internet quote or if the price comes in cheaper on their system rather than the internet quote.

Might be the case now, but about 8 months ago, by phoning to renew, they couldn't get within £200 of the online quote I'd managed. I hadn't been 'creative' with my details either... They flatly said "we can't match that" and asked if I wanted to cancel my policy.
