Hey all,

After some new speakers as my 50W acoustic solutions speakers don't seem to cut it any more.

The first product I looked at was the Logitech Z5500's as they seem very popular with great reviews, But I just wanted to get some opinions before I hit the buy button to see if there is anything else better out there for a similar price (£200-220)

Thanks.

z5500s are always great value for money. I remember reading on some other thread a while ago that there's a new line that might be coming out in the not too distant future. Otherwise I'd go z5500s. They haven't dropped in price in years.

Being Logitech, the customer service is second to none. It's hard not to recommend any logitech product.

Depends what you are after, and what you want the speakers for. If you are looking for speakers for music, I'd consider something else, as the Z5500's are lacking when it comes to music. Same applies to all 5.1 PC speakers though, and the majority of 2.1. If you want speakers for film and gaming, then that's what the Z5500's are designed for, and what they excel at.

Yeah all my other peripherals are from Logitech. Always impressed with their quality and customer service.

Hmm, that's quite a hard one then, as I do play a lot of games but also like to listen to music. When you say they are lacking when it comes to music, in what way do you mean?

Most 5.1 speakers, unless they are a good quality separates 5.1 setup, will not sound that good for music. The Z5500's wont sound bad, but there will be a whole in the sound where the mid range should be. Anyone who is used to listening to a good stereo, or good headphones will notice straight away where 5.1 PC speakers are lacking.

To be fair to the Z5500's, they will sound a hell of a lot better than a £70 set, but that mid range is still missing. Without that music just doesn't sound right, not after listening to a decent stereo, it sounds disjointed and hollow. Without the mid range, the higher and lower frequencies don't sound like they are coming form the same system. For some, this ruins the music. However, many people rate the Z5500's pretty good for music, so it comes down to personal preference somewhat. Might also depend what that person has experienced when listening to music. If they are used to a good stereo, the Z5500's wont sound right. If all a person has ever known is cheap PC speakers, I'm sure the Z5500's will sound awesome.

The Z5500's are good speakers though. For what you are getting for the price, you wont find any better surround speakers.
