2003 1.4 Astra.

I have the 2001 Astra 1.7 DTI
My misses has a 2000 plate focus 1.4 zetec

The Astra is far far better then the focus.
The focus feels heavy and sluggish, its very cumbersome with blind spots when it comes to changing lanes etc
The Astra is much nippier & the visibility is excellent in comparison.

My old Astra (1999) 1.6 petrol kept me, my partner & our baby alive in an 80mph head on crash when someone came down the dual carriage way the wrong direction. In fact, I was the only one injured at all so it's a very safe car to drive. The focus feels to easy to damage & not as solid, at least, thats my opinion anyway.

Choosing between a 1999 - 2004 astra/focus i'd choose the astra any day of the week!
I'd rather have an old A reg nova then a focus.

The Astra hate club on here is a bit silly really :o No they aren't particularly quick or fun to drive but they are solid and reliable and cheaper to buy than an equivilent focus. Depends what you want a car for really. Cheap and reliable, the Astra is a decent second hand buy in the 3-5k price bracket. No way i'd buy a new one though! Oh and people who own something like an S2000, well of course an Astra is going to feel a bit rubbish after driving your car

For reference, I drove the Astra before ever owning the s2000.

Her other car which she was a Clio Van (company car), which I actually found more comfortable and enjoyed being in more, than the Astra.

Yet both yield identical 0-60 times so both are identically slow. Fooled by diesel torque much?

Well 0-60 times the same doesnt mean all performance is the same but I agree he's deluded if he thinks there is 'HUGE' anything from either other than 'failure'.

No it doesn't, however it provides enough evidence that no_1_dave is being deluded.
