Hi guys I'm looking for some advice,

Im living at with my parents and I have an orange mobile with orange broadband. Have been with Orange for about 4 years since wanadoo.
I got a letter the other week saying they are capping our broadband between 6 and 12pm everyday.
Which is fine as I have taken the pi** a bit and must have downloaded 150Gb and there isn't an orange LLU in our exchange (there is no LLUs)

Currently paying £5 a month - which to be fair is great as I get 7mb and have no problems really. Im currently capped to 0.5Mb 6pm-12pm.

I cant handle the speed anymore so I rang up to cancel and get my maccode, and basically got speaking to guy who offered the following

Unlimited* broadband - 7mb for £5 a month - basically the same package as it is now but no cap and no monthly allowance if I sign up for a 12 month contract. He said there is new broadband packages being realised on the 28th of Oct and the new packages remove the monthly allowance?? Alarm bells are instantly going off, and if there was a o2 LLU i would go with them obviously.

I did push regarding the monthly allowance, but the guy was adamant that they were the 1st broadband provider to scrap *unlimited (fair usage) monthly allowance??

I told him to ring me back on the 28th and I will have a decision. Basically dont know what to do. £5 a month is great for 7mb broadband but i blatantly think hes a lier about the removal of 1 the cap and 2 the monthly allowance.
I might go with plusnet for £17.99 a month. But then its
£216 or
£60 with orange??

Any help have any ideas?

Thanks Chris

wish i didnt live in the sticks

Using a Belkin Router FD200 model number is probably wrong.

I understand regarding ISPs you get what you pay for and really before I got capped I was getting a very good deal £5 for 7MB, I just wanted to know if there was any truth in the uncap and the month allowance claim by the orange tech guy? And all packages are getting "changed" on the 28th of Oct?
Cheers

Chris

The guy on the phone probably means unlimited download, and is not talking about the capping. On Oranges website it says you can get 20mb for 7.50 a month with unlimited downloads.

To be honest, I wouldn't trust a word the "tech" guy told you

Exactly ^^

basically he stated that he will lift the cap 0.5mb from 6-12pm. Back up to 7mb which is what my line supports. £5 a month, no monthly allowance. at all?

He stated that "new orange broadband packages are coming into effect 28th Oct which will get rid of all download limits"?

So i obviously said well if i rinse 200gb I'm going to get charged more? and he was adamant that I wouldn't? I obviously still think he's lieing? But for £60 I might take a punt?

I wouldn't take the punt, not it if meant a new 12 month contract.

Do Orange have a customer forum, maybe you can find more information?

After trying to find more information I wasn't successful but what I think the tech guy means is that there will be no "usage cap" but there will probably be a "FUP" still in place.

Meaning you will still get speed caps but you will be able to download as much as you want.

You say you have a Mobile contract with Orange yes?

If so why are you paying for broadband in the first place, i have a contract mobile with them and get my BB for free.

**Ok just checked and i'm on a low package:

Home Starter - with your Orange mobile phone - £0.00 a month, up to 8 Meg speed, wireless router, 10GB usage allowance and inclusive evening and weekend landline telephone calls.

So you probably wouldn't want it free, lol

That free BB deal ended long ago but for customer regrading they will honour the free BB until/if they decide to migrate people off it.

There are no current plans to scrap fair usage policy for orange but there some nice packages coming out soon that are still under NDA though ;)

Cheers swifty for checking, i couldnt fid anything either. what FUP? They guy definately said they will be no speed cap between 6-12pm??

WHats NDA big bruiser? what are the new packages?

I'll just have a quick google now

When I was talking to an orange BB guy trying to sell me their LLU services (a few months back), they basically said that their policies are the same as O2 (not the recent changes). LLU, unlimited as long as you don't have a severe impact on other customers. He said, it was very rare that they'd use the power to disconnect a bad customer (no throttling though). Since I had the F&F offer on o2 (o2 pro for £7.50 a month) I declined.

The package that he is offering you isn't realistic. Avoid Orange completely if you care about the quality of your broadband connection. Check out Zen & IDNet.

I would do but for £60 for the year its not too bad. All I want to do is be able to play online after work. Ive cut right back on downloading from usenet, and if I do do it it will be late at night.
