No Super Streetfighter IV for PC due to piracy

And why were they being heralded as such? Because they said they were looking to continue to support the PC platform going forward... and now they have done a u-turn. Comprende?

Comprende plenty, they're still making their PC exclusive title and their other franchises are still going to be released on the PC.

The PC has never been a big platform for fighting games, SFIV is pretty much the only one to ever make it 'big' but it still gained pathetic profits in comparison to its console counterparts so they ditched it. It's common business sense yet some treat it as if its some kind of personal insult or a conspiracy to kill PC gaming.

It didn't sell well, be that due to piracy or not its common sense to discontinue it, get over it (this is angled at all those getting up in arms, not you :))

Yes because your average joe cant or wont mod their 360 to enable piracy.

And because it's still impossible to pirate games on the PS3. It was briefly possible, but Sony patched that up within a week afaik.

To be honest, it would be better for gamers if the piracy reason was truthful compared to just poor profitability. At least steps can be taken to reduce piracy, if PC gaming is really just becoming so unpopular as to prove unprofitable we're in a much worse state IMO.

Aye but the reason people are getting up in arms is because of that very fact - that pretty much WAS the first proper fighting game to be released on the PC and it sold very well.
Not a fraction of what it did on the console obviously but for a pc title it sold plenty... anyway - we (the downtrodden pc bunch) had a sniff of what a proper fighting game was like on the pc and now its being taken away.

so... /tantrum :D

It's just sales: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57360 now that can't include PC as the PC version came out a few months later. How many has the PC version sold? 70,000? 100,000? Maybe if there was 0 piracy on the PC, it might lift it out of being not worth them releasing it but that doesn't mean it's the reason.

I don't like or dislike or even have any interest for this game but I'm fed up of less games being released on PC :@ I <3 PC, tis my digital hub for everything. We gotta do something!

Well that also goes to show that Games for Windows LIVE is totally useless at preventing piracy and punishes legitimate users. DOWN WITH GfWL!
GFWL has prevented Dead Rising2 on PC from being cracked as it was available 2 weeks ago on torrent sites yet there is no working copy until GFWL activate their servers as DR2 uses ZDPP + SSA which will limit piracy a lot. DR2 is one of the only recent PC games which has been out in the wild for weeks & not been cracked & this is all due to GFWL DRM which makes it the most effective yet.

SF4 only used a mild disc based protection which is why it was pirated heavily but even then only a valid unique GFWL serial number allowed online play so Capcom are just upset that prospective console players got a free offline SP version instead

If that was the case why not just say nothing about it?

They would get a lot of grief when PC gamers realise they aren't going to get a version, this way they play victim and all the anger is towards pirates and not Capcom.

Plenty of games are released on the consoles without ever seeing the PC with no drama at all.

I'd like to see no drama if COD:MW3 or whatever version they're up to is console only, look at the uproar and hate campaign waged over a tiny thing like no dedicated servers for the PC version.

The guy even admited that SFIV sold well on the PC so they seem to be throwing money away while blaming piracy. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of reasoning as to why "they are just using it as an excuse".

All those who bought the (cheaper) PC version will now purchase on console, so nothing lost and everything to gain profit-wise.

It's quite frustrating as a PC gamer, especially as the PC version of SF4 is so good.

I am a bit confused by the responses to this thread though, If the reason isn't piracy then what is it?.
Surely if there is good profit to be made there must be a good reason not to release a PC version...

Seemingly, the reason is piracy but the reasoning is quite backward. He claims it sold well, that probably means a large profit. It seems to me that his issue is that while it sold well, he didn't like the fact that it was pirated at all, and has probably linked some numbers he's came across to "lost sales" or something. Because if the game sold well, realistically who cares that it has high piracy numbers? I know I pirated SF4, but then I went and bought it because I thought it was great. How do they know that didn't happen quite a lot? I think it's just a cop out to be honest.

Blazblue is better anyway :p

Thumbs up to that one. Though I love the odd bit of some oldy SF.

Chances are they're not bothered to make it. It took over a year for BBCT to come to the EU, let alone PC, that took yet longer porting the 360 version to PC.

Other fighting games like Guilty Gear, the last PC release was GG XX#Reload, also Isuka but that wasn't a proper fighting game in the conventional 2 player sense. Neither had multiplayer.

They probably look at what the projected profits are based on market research, or they assume that PC gamers are all FPS and RTS nuts.

And I'm glad I sent a message out to the BB devs requesting a PC release, as I'm sure many others did. I like to think my opinion was heard. Who knows.

street fighter turbo snes or arcade alpha the newer versions are to clunky in comparison.

shame about pc version but i still think it will come out on pc :)

Wellp. I'm playing Blazblue on PC, Live + Crossplatform. Only £12 on launch day and all.
This as well its a great game & so cheap but also has free cross platfrom play vs X360 players & all for under £12.

Capcom can keep their SSF4 as its only the console DLC + a few other minor bits anyway certainly not worth a full price release for so little extra content.

sounds like they jsut want to maximise the console profits.

saying its not coming out on the pc, and trying to force pc gamers to get it on the console instead.

then when the console sales dry up, they can release it on the pc and hope the pc gamers will buy a second copy on the pc

Well seeing as it wasn't even a full price release on console, I'd assume if it was released on PC it wouldn't be a full price title either. As for there being so little extra content. I'd have to disagree.

If it sold well, it sold well. The piracy excuse is a non starter, those that pirated the game either never had any intention of buying the game. Or there wasn't a demo available and people pirated it, tried it and then binned it (no sale lost) or bought it.

Steam only games are still cracked and pirated.

i cant believe people still use this ****e excuse for pirating - 'oh i wouldnt of brought it anyway but il more then happy steal it'
lmao....please open your eyes.

with a comment like that im not surprised at all that their not releasing it.

even if you have a look around OCUK forums you can realise how big piracy really is. Sometimes I wonder what would it take for some pc gamers to stop pirating? no pc games at all maybe...
