TT RS driver pulls handbrake when brakes fail

errm, not pull handbrake, shift down as much as possible and attempt keep the car straight into gravel?
Obviously it's easy to say but then then when you realise you've got no brakes at that speed your logic fails sometimes lol.

It looked like he was braking pretty early as it is, so should have had enough time to do some major downshifting

Having watched it a few times was the only thing he could do (he was still doing ~202 just before the 100 mark so he'd have hit the wall the other side still doing 180 odd km/h even with downshifting) - he fully locks the opposite way before pulling handbrake so it was planned.

To be fair, going sideways will have scrubbed off loads of speed. While its a pretty mad thing to do, if he hadn't and just gone straight he would have probably ploughed into a wall, fast.

Yeah if you look carefully he hardly loses any speed between 150 and 100 marks despite trying to slow down he'd have still gone into the corner at the best part of 200km/h. If it had been me driving I'd have probably turned it over trying to make the corner :(

Owch, they both remain pretty calm despite being in a rather sticky situation. Gotta say I'm not sure what action I would have taken there.

I don't really see how the brakes could just fail - did the driver definitely actually pull the handbrake?

If the brakes had failed and he was pulling the handbrake then it was a pretty good call, as downshifting enough to slow the car enough for the corner in such a short distance would lunch the engine.

I didnt see anything that indicated the brakes failing?

Hand brake was a horrific idea, especially given how far he had to go before the corner.

And if you HAVE to use it, not that much!

Noob indeed.
