Car without tax

What does it mean when a second hand car is advertised as "The car does not have any tax". Is there anything I would need to find out more or does this mean something?
 
It means either the tax disk has run out or the seller is such a Scrooge he's planning to sell it back to the DVLA.

Is it a dealer's car or private? How expensive is it?
 
No road tax. Needs a new tax disk. Tbh anything advertised with no tax or mot I'd have a very close look over and hpi it
 
I've just looking out for cars at the moment and saw an ad on autotrader from a Trader that said this. So I was just wondering whether there would be further implications apart from the obvious and whether it is something to be wary of.

Very few cars from traders will include tax so avoiding it would be quite silly.

Even a nearly new Audi from a main dealer will come with tax only if you pay to tax it!

Yup,

Doesn't make much sense for a second hand car dealer to keep a load of old taxed cars on their books. They'll mot them and if you wish to buy the car, they'll usually tax them for you
 
Thanks guys, this is why I asked the question. So it should not really be a problem, especially if it says it has a valid MOT. The dealer should then just be able to tax it. However I suppose you cannot really take it for a test drive then.

You can test drive it as dealers have trade plates instead of tax.
