I have just this minute finished mafia 2 and after being really into the story i feel so let down by then end, aside from the fact the game has finished, there is no after play at all, no extra missions, free roaming etc. what a let down.

I enjoyed the game, Story was it was "okay", I didn't feel the story was long enough or well that outstanding.

The City is quite nice and looks beautiful in places, it's a real shame it never felt "alive" in the same sense that the Rockstar created worlds do.

The complete lack of anything besides porno mags / wanted posters was a real shame.

It would have being nice to have a main story that was somewhere between 15-25 hours long, and a City that was alive and had side missions, sub plots and things to do! could have made a lot out of being in charge of a Mafia style family.

I'd probably give it about 5/6 out of 10.

Looks nice but there's very little substance, the DLC is also a complete joke.

Story was fairly generic and didn't really pull me in at all. They rushed you through the good parts and tried to keep you from exploring, etc. too much so they could flog off some DLC content later :( the whole prison section was pretty much a rip off of shawshank but they could easily have added 3-4x the content and some story in that section alone with minimal effort seeing they went to the effort of fleshing it out asset wise. Same with the opening scene in WWII could have added a few hours of fun there without much effort seeing as they went to the effort of creating all the assets anyhow.

It is for me. Mafia 1 is my all time favourite PC game, and whilst I was already expecting Mafia 2 to be no where near as good, I just wasn't expecting so many flaws to be openly noticed whilst playing it.

The game was massively rushed and signs of that are all over the place. Even portions of DLC art assets are already in the game, which confirms that.

Ditto. I did actually enjoy the game well enough though as a matter of fact, but being as it is a sequel to such an amazing game you can't help but compare. Mafia 2 is like Deus Ex: Invisible War, actually a fairly good game if you just played it without ever having known about the first game, but if you do know the game before it's a very weak follow up. The main thing that i didn't like as much in Mafia 2 was the story to be honest, the combat/driving were fine, although saying that there were no truly memorable missions like 'A Trip to the Country' this time around. I actually didn't miss free-ride but that didn't really keep me interested for long in the first game anyway.

Not sure if it's my biggest let down of the year, i thought Mass Effect 2 was pretty bland which annoyed the hell out of me as i loved the first game. Sadly this is the way things seem to go lately, mediocrity is the order of the day.

I have high hopes for The Witcher 2, but i'm half expecting that to be just 'OK' as well... Meh.

Took the time to complete the game, but it was in all fairness, it was a poor effort.
Yes it looked good, very good in places, but the story line was very lapse.
And the lack of a free-roam/side missions portion of the game, made it very mundane indeed.

Well from what I have played (about 2/3)it just seems mediocre to me, nothing outstanding. I never played the first Mafia,so I can't compare the two.

Nowhere near letdown of the year (imagine all those people who waited for apb...). The only dissapointment for me came after i'd finnished it and saw the devs/publishers business model.

Don't worry m8, I have a warm feeling that 'The Witcher 2' will not be a let down. I really can't see that being a flop. :)

Haven't yet bought Mafia 2 but I did play the demo and quite enjoyed it. I might like it more than some since I have hardly touched the first game.

I loved it, but it was far too short. I completed it in a couple of days... with a game like GTA, I'd have got at least a couple of weeks out of it!

I thought Mafia 2 was a generic **** fest. There's a much bigger post with my thoughts in the Mafia 2 thread, and I really can't be bothered to waste my time typing it all out again. Dreadful game, lack of story, the good bits were rushed and the majority of the game was a massive rip off of other films. The prison section was right out of Shawshank, burying the body was right out of Goodfellas, all the people in the conference at the skyscraper and then you killing them all was (sort of) straight out of The Godfather part 3 . It's got very few ideas of it's own and the ones it does are so bland and generic there is no point playing them.

I'd agree, but the point is pretty much everyone was expecting something that was going to be exceptional, not something that turned out as average as it is (imo).

If it was 3 or 4 times the length, with side missions and great other stuff to do, in a bigger city, it would have been one of the best games ever IMO. Just a shame they don't seem to have been arsed.

Its on the bioshock 2 level of dissapointment.

Not another spore, or farcry 2, but still not up to the standard of its peers.

Problem was, there were so many ingame systems that were of no use and you cannot really miss them.

Opening/Closing Windows - why?
House phones/call boxes - why? Aside from one mission where you need to use it.
Taxi's and Trains - They are in, but someone forgot the code to let Vito use it?
Faucets/Toilets - Woo I can use/flush them, to what end?
Food/Drinks - Of little importance since they all refresh health to the max.
Gun Stores - Rubbish, and Harry's is so far away that you cba to even drive there.
Car Showroom - Reserved for incoming DLC?!

The list just goes on and on and I am very forgiving and patient about games too. I admit that I enjoyed playing through Mafia 2's story but seeing flaws at every corner just doesn't help. At least I got Mafia 1 bundled free with my steam purchase :)

the saboteur was much better than mafia2 and the saboteur was never really hyped up ands barely mentioned on most forums. sad how a game can do well based on marketing alone most people who bought it probably never played the original

I lolled at that post, even though all of it is 100% true.
