Are products made to be used up or fall apart quicker these days?

Take the common bathroom soap for instance, im sure these turn to mush more often than not now, also most stuff in bottles seem to have larger openings so its used quicker and lets not forget how many food items have shrunk in size by a good 30% over the years, whats going on?

true age of the consumer is here, everything costs more, has less, smaller packaging, the people in charge of manufacturing and production are nickle and diming us folks a lot more now, and we're letting them do it,

manufacturers seem to be more interested in getting us to part with our cash then anything else.

i know some people will say the above is inevitable but to that PSSSSSSHH, business has to make money but penny pinching on the amount of plastic packaging you get on etc etc is totally screwed.

everything now a days is almost disposable, things really aren't made like they used to be, my mother has a food mixer she got in 1975 for her wedding, it still works today, you couldn't expect that with anything you buy today

add's to the adage, easy come, easy go:rolleyes:

You get like 3 crisps in walkers packs now

30g bags will be 30g. Last I heard they haven't yet found a way to make air weigh more so unless they are selling you less than the advertised weight (which is illegal) then this myth is busted :) Now injecting water into pork, bacon, etc, that's a whole other ballgame.

It's not like it was back in the good ole' days when everything lasted forever and there was no crime and everyone lived in a sort of friendly bliss, got up early to work hard, and then spent their evenings helping old ladies across roads or perhaps tending their vegetable patches.

Sorry but what kind of spastic takes out the bottle and goes "well i need this much" and then just tips the bottle pours crap loads out through the new sized hole and then never learns and continuously pours out twice as much as he needs as titling the bottle less or pouring for less time eludes him?

Injecting water into meat is ok as long as you declare the % water content, its then up to the cosnumer, do they want watered down pork for 10p/slice or proper meat for 50p/slice for example.

I've always thought that electronic products are made flimsier these days. I have a hifi setup from my pc, with an amp, speakers, tuner and cd player that are from the 70s or 80s and cd player from the late 90s. You can tell by build quality etc., that these will more than likely last at least another 10 years or so. I haven't bought an electronics product in the last 5 years at least that I have confidence will last me that long.

To be fair with e.g. phones they're cramming a lot more into them and a touch screen doesn't help.

Had to walk out the office to LOL at that. Love it!

Are you comparing equally priced (and more importantly equal performance ) products?

A good part of it is that R&D costs have had to be slashed, also a lot of testing these days is done by the public/user groups (i.e. software/hardware).

I've lost count of the amount of bug fixes, firmware updates and patches I've had to run on things I've purchased recently.

JUST GET IT RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

When I used to do PC repairs in my spare time it was only because I either did freebies or had cheap rates that repairing a pc/laptop was cost effective - 3hours at my local I.T. retailer and you can buy a new laptop...... so where is the incentive to be anything other than a throwaway society?

Stop dropping the soap or rubbing your crusty anus with the bar in the shower then op!

I use Dove cream bar soap in my daily shower and one bar easily lasts a few weeks!
