Two Gateshead men arrested for watching 9/11 Koran burning video

Not in the UK as it's a police state you're not allowed to have free speech. But in the US they have the first amendment.

We really aren't a police state. Again, I think we would need to see the contents of the video before we know if the charges are justified.

But it isn't "only a bit of book burning" it is "A bit of book burning which has suddenly turned into a criminal offence". Should people not be able to burn books in legitimate protest? .

I don't think the legitimacy of it is even an issue, end of the day you should be able to burn any legally owned books religious or otherwise just for 'lolz' if you want and share the experience with whoever you want.

I'm going to sound quite a bit nerdy here but this incident reminds me of the whole 'Nightwatch' fiasco in Babylon 5, (Nightwatch being the police in this instance)

I wonder how many people on here would be willing to wear the armband ;):p

Remember though if you live in America or certain parts of the uk you may need a permit to have such a fire :p

Well if you and groen are correct you should be arrested in about a weeks time for this.

I will just use the Fifth Amendment that dates back to the Magna Carta 1215..No hold on they banned using that as well(It's not a police state..really) :( :D

Gotta agree with you on that it is very worrying that people now have to prove their innocence and can in fact be sentenced (on a different charge) for not incriminating them selves.

Rather insulting to the poor sods in a real police state but whatever you say.

OK, having just watched the video...

While they are certainly idiots and most definately annoying I am struggling to see anything in that video that is inciting religious hatred.

Sadly it does indeed seem to be that just burning the koran and filming it is enough. :(

Well hopefully they don't get charged and there's some disciplinary action involved if they where required to spend the night etc.

So please tell me why I can burn what ever book I like and film it in the US and nothing will happen
but here they use a 2006 law to stop me.
They take laws away from the people here and no one blinks a eye..
well not till it comes back to kick them in the ass.

Sorry, I agree that I don't think it's a particularly arrestable offence.

It's just that, you know, it's still book burning. Of an old and respected text. Kind of makes me despair of my fellow man and all that.

On a slight tangent...

Muslims foaming at the mouth when someone burns a Koran, yet some of their nutter contingent habitually burn the flags of other countries and obviously think that's fine. Irony.

Free speech means nothing when they can throw you in jail without trial and waterboard you anytime they want.

The video would have made me dispair of my fellow man even if they were burning a copy of the BNP manifesto.

An honest question:

If they weren't trying to incite racial hatred (a crime), then why did they produce the video and upload it onto the internet for public viewing ?

What purpose would it achieve ?
