Iv tried getting a renewal with the insurance company im with now, firstly by a renewal, and a completely new policy.

I have recieved NO conviction points, no claims, iv added an extra years no claims bonus this year, so gone from 2 to 3 years no claims. Im also now 26 as apposed to 25.

My quote last year was around £480, this year no matter what company I get a quote with, no one is quoting me less than £600.

Any ideas why insurance companies are quoting much more this year than any other year?

None of my other circumstances have changed.

Fake accidents, wippy compo's etc are pushing up insurance companies prices. Also, the places where insurance companies invest their cash are not giving the returns that they used to (recession etc). This has meant that they have had to increase prices. It totaly sucks but that is life.

Iv managed to get two quotes which basically match what im paying now, but its just stupid.

Is there any point in a no claims bonus system anymore? It's not as if its actually doing anything.

Mine's also gone up from ~600 to ~800 this year, bloody sucks. What makes it worse is I can't get any quotes even close to last years, all around 800 :(.

Tescos just quoted me over £1000, for a car that I got a quote for £480 on last year, what the hell?

stupid.

If I get charged more than I'm currently paying when I come to renew I will most probably have to SORN the car. :(

I'm hoping that when the time comes, being 25 + 7 years NCB + having a >200bhp car for a year without a claim *touch wood* is going to work in my favour but by the sounds of it, it's not guaranteed.

more than put up my renewal..I just shopped around and got a better deal...now I am of a certain age AXA were cheapest for me..cheaper in fact than my last uyears more than policy..so screw them, if a company wants to keep my business they can offer me a good deal...if they cannot manage it then I go to somebody who will..the advantage of there being plenty of choice I suppose

Mine has just come down for a change. All a bit odd really, Admiral group have always been cheapest for me for at least the last 6-7 years with no-one else even being competitive. All of a sudden this year they don't want to seem to want my business as the renewal has gone up more than usual and requoting as a new customer doesn't make a difference when in the past it's always knocked off at least £30-60 yet everyone else is suddenly giving me good quotes. Ended up paying £197 TPFT for the Galant with £61 cashback to come off that yet assuming quidco come through for me.

If mine doesn't stay the same or reduce then I move insurers if the compan won't budge on price.

I refuse to pay for the claims of others and haven't paid an increased premium in years.

Exactly, if more people are claiming then the fact that YOU haven't claimed should be an EXTRA bonus in your favour, as it shows that you are THAT much better at driving than those people ... as such are a much lower risk.

Well I have always got a lower insurance price everytime I do mine as I will always shop around and go with the lowest, I have no loyalty to any insurer.

For instance I bought my Golf 1.6SE Y reg in August and this is coming from a crappy 1983 1.5 Mazda. So with the Mazda I was with Swinton's on Third Party fire and theft with it at around £320 with all the extras, legal protection, windscreen cover, NCB protection etc. I am 29 with 10 odd years NCB.

Now Swinton's wouldn't transfer the insurance to the Golf so asked what a new policy was fully comp they came back with £650 (nearly fell over when they said that!!!) So went looking on confused.com and gocompare and lo and behold Admiral and Diamond do the insurance for £380. Added some extras and all in paid £411 for the Golf, so I will always shop around and hopefully next year it will be a lower amount.

I just got my renewal expecting the worst because of all the news stories about a 20-30% hike in premiums. Last year I paid £720ish for my car with no mods, this time I added a CAI and a remap and it's down to £570. Also considering it was hovering arround the £700 mark for the last three years it's not too bad.

Ive been getting this as well, looks like mines gone up for no reason its annoying.

Wondering if the bad times people are having with money means more people are trying to claim for whiplash and stuff
