How the hell is my insurance renewals much more expensive?

Been shopping around abit, dont think im going to get lower than the £40 per month im paying now.

Oh well :( I was looking forward to another years no claims. Failed me

Yeah mines gone up from £380 to £440, gits. Year before it was just same as previous so I've had £380, £380 ad £440 in the past three years.

Just a note for everyone. First Direct offer to beat your renewal quote by 10% :) Although if you're driving anything remotely interesting and are youngish they'll slap you with a minimum age for your car and refuse.

Apparently I have to be 28 to drive my car  Although as I'm 28 during my policy the agent said it should be ok as I have impecable history and have owned the car for 6 years but the underwriter then refused, probably because the price was too low for them. (He actually admited this to me and was gutted as he missed out on commision.)

Personal injury claims costs are going up.

Claims management companies costs need to be taken into account.

See the adverts on all during the day 'injured when it wasnt your fault' etc etc. This is a major reason the costs are going up. The culture of compensation / injury claims is mirroring that of the US and needs to but wont stop.

The majority of brokers motor books are simply no longer proffitable and the whole sector is failing with the large players habing to increase premiums to cover the costs of PI claims.

Unfortuntely as a result we are going to have to live with the price rises and this renewal will not be the last.

Until they sort out personal injury claims they'll keep going up. They really need to clamp down hard on it. Our sodding compensation culture really grinds my gears.

I really think they should just put an outright CAP on the payouts for personal injury and if you don't like it then don't get in a car. Also the Gov't need to stop the legal system exploiting car insurance companies, their fees are ridiculous and I've heard some mad stories in the past where law firms deliberately keep cases going on for as long as possible.

its all based on a numbers game, they rate upon any information you give them, occupation, postcode, mileage, but take the car for example if they have 100 fiesta 1.25 LX on cover and last year they make two claims, they see the likely hood of a claim happening as quite low, roll on 10/12 months later they re run the same details with up to date rates for the UK, so they might still have the 100 cars on cover but if 15 have made claims then the likely hood of having a claim is higher than last and they would rate higher upon that particular car.

only other way insurance companies would give a price is to blanket the insure and you pay £2/£3/£4000 and it doesnt matter what the car is or who is driving

if people arent happy with the renewal figure its an offer to renew they not forcing you to stay with them, so shop around get something that is more for you budget and move

Focus ST £650

Diesel Picasso £585

WTF how the hell is a group 6 car only £65 cheaper than a group 17 ????

grouping of the car doesnt mean its gonna be cheaper as the underwritters decide on what they class as a good risk car and a bad risk car too

Oh to be back in 2009

Country is going to the dogs, no wonder people are cutting back on insurance.

£400 try over a grand. I'm 32 with 8 years NCB. Car is garaged, 5k miles a year and social only. No accidents but 3 points. Going to contact Adrian Flux or Sky Insurance tomorrow hopefully they can get it cheaper. I paid £600 last year.

27, 6 years NCB, no point, no claims

Strange how it went from £539 to £414 its almost if they have some sort of random number generator or get a dog to pick a piece of paper with a quote written on it.

I had the same problem. Mine was £447 last year with 2 years NCB. This year I have 3 years NCB and most places have quoted around £600 with the cheapest so far being £414. I'm gonna ring around and see what prices I can get.

Just a note for everyone. First Direct offer to beat your renewal quote by 10%
Cheers for that. I'll be giving them a ring.

Most mental one I came across whilst getting quotes the other day:

Fully comp: £270ish
TPFT: £200ish
TP only: £350ish

How exactly can fire and theft coverage cost -£150? This was with the same details, just changing the cover type...

The insurance company I work for is quoting increased renewals to customers, they say it's due to the amount of personal injury claims over the last 12 months making the insurance industry difficult to make a profit from.

Mine came down this year...

Even so, managed to get a better price by phoning around.

£540 last year, renewal £695 this year, £900 new policy with same company and £800 was the cheapest anyone else would do.

Insurance has definitely gone up.
