I upgraded from a GTX 285 to a GTX 470 the other day and ever since then whenever I play battlefield bad company 2 it randomly crashes me to desktop without warning or any kind of error or message. Just closes the game. It happens randomly. Sometimes i'm playing for 5 minutes before it crashes and sometimes it crashes within 30 seconds.

When I installed the 470 i uninstalled the old driver (with driver sweeper also) and installed 258.96. I have also tried the new 260.63 BETA driver to see if that would help but the problem persists. I also reinstalled the game in a final attempt to fix it.

Other games work fine.

Does anybody else have this problem? Any ideas? :(

Is your power supply upto the job?

Also don't bother with driver cleaner it usually does more damage than anything - 99.999% of the time nVidia drivers can be installed over the old ones without problems even when changing hardware.

I had this exact error with the beta 260 driver on my 470.

try uninstalling all nvidia software (3d vision and physx first, then driver) When it restarts - go into safe mode and install 258.96. Without changing anything on the nvidia cp - try running bad company2

^^Using Driver Sweeper / Cleaner can cause problems since you can end up affecting the registry. Just double check that all is ok in device manager and that other games run fine.

Iv had the CTD once maybe twice since I purchased the game back in March.

I do run ATI/AMD gpu's however.

The only thing you can do is get your end of the bargain correct.

If you'v recently reformated with fresh install of windows:

1. Apply all windows updates
2. Use all latest drivers for your hardware.
3. Check that any overclocking is indeed stable, heat and stability wise.
4. If overclocking the gpu, try at stock to see if it is that which is the problem.
5. Defrag hard disk
6. Maybe some other applications is causing your CTD? (I hear Asus smart doctor has issues such as these)
7. You can always contact Nvidia technical support, and they will be able to give you some advise.... you will have to hunt around for the portal but its on (hidden through many layers) their website) I have contacted them and AMD in the past. Nvidia's support is better!
8. Check to make sure your firewall has exception configured for the BFBC2 single and multiplayer exe's
9. Disable antivirus whilst playing games... or see if there is a game mode etc... (I just turn off realtime protection using AVG when I game)
