My new pet goats!

I want Goats and Ducks!

Maybe once I have a bigger garden.

What do they eat, do you goto the supermarket and buy all the reduced to clear veg?

How much does a goat cost?
I was looking at goats earlier in the yet. Until I saw the cost. However I was at a farm last week and they were selling them a lot cheaper than I've seen private breeders sell them for. I got them for £80 each.

At the moment the goats are only eating hay. I've tried offering them a tomato, lettuce and even a chocolate cookie! Fussy blighters.

The ducks like lettuce, bread, dried worms and fake worms (spagetti).
You dont need a 'big' garden. It just takes some hard graft!

I converted this...

Thats cool! your lucky to have a big garden. Why did you want goats though? Are you going to get them insured/chipped etc?

We couldnt have any other animals our cats would go nuts :/

I guess, I just had some room in the garden, and wanted to make the most of it. Plus, hopefully they will eat the apples that drop from the apple tree.

Goats just seemed like a low maintenance, interesting garden pet.

I live in quite a rural area. I have monkeys just along the road. Horses to the right. A guy even takes his horse for a walk every morning to feed on the grass out the front.

Fair do's :D each to our own :D Are you a farmer? or just have a lot of land to use?

I still plan to buy a llama or alpaca, will start the ball rolling again. The only downside is the tb testing that needs doing all the time

My Guinea pigs have more space than that. :(
This was while they were ducklings to give them some room away from the dogs. The ducks are now free to roam the entire garden. There is a low decorative fence, but there is a gap for them to walk around. Although they can easily jump over it.

They are unclipped. So technically, they've got as much room as they could possibly want.

How confident are you that if you take the enclosure away, your guinea pigs will still be there when you get back from work? ;)

Cool pets

Do the ducks not need any protection from daytime predators? e.g. cats?
During the day, they have two dogs to protect them. Next door has a cat. The last time it came into the garden, it made a very swift exit. :p Had them a year and a half, and not been a problem. If they were threatened they'd jump into the pond.

Also, you'd be surprised how aggressive an adult male duck is.
do the ducks make a mess?
are the animals locked up at night (from foxes etc)?
what size is your garden?
Yes, they make one hell of a mess. They are honestly pure sheeting machines!
They are locked away every night now after I lost one to a fox. :(

When i was a kid, some neighbours had a goat, it EVERYTHING including other neighbours washing from the line! they are great though!
