LOTRO now free to play!

Nothing running my end which would prevent connection, I've looked on thier forums, there's a tonne of posts where it's happened in the past. Looks like thier servers, maybe the route my pc takes to get there or something??

The server were offline earlier I though..well, according to the download thing i'm using anyway.

Don't forget that today is maintenance day. The servers are currently offline whilst our engineers tune them up and update them. They'll be back online at approximately 13.00 hours, UK time (GMT + 1).

Not looking good, been trying to sort it all out last night and this morning.

Big thread over on Codemasters forum and nothing they suggest is working.

I can Tracert Lotro Europe with no problems, I've tried disabling Router firewall (Bt home hub), Disabling Windows 7 firewall, Allowing all Lotro.exe's through the firewall, uninstalling AVG, changing DNS settings, changing the launcher to bypass any proxies, soft/hard reset of the router, changing the windows hosts file.

Bizzare really, I had Lotro installed fine a few months ago and nothings changed since then.
 
Just install the trail and I have to say I'm not very impressed with the UI - it looks so crap.
 
Besides, they're finally allowing proper modding of the UI, so in a month or so it'll look like whatever you want.

I don't really like the current UI, but it's hardly 'so crap'
 
looks crap, I didn't say it was crap. I'm very particular with how things look, and the UI doesn't cut it for me.
 
Well....after it unpacked 22,000 files last night, it was ready to log in this morning! Just need to create an account now :p
 
Well, I dont know about the UI...I'm happy with my UI.

So after doing reading on the classes in Lorebook, I've decided to go with Captain (WoW pally/druid) and for my gf to be a hunter.

That way she can pew pew from afar, and I can switch between DPS/Tank/Healing as required.

Guardian + Minstrel

Champion + Rune-keeper

Burglar + Loremaster

For your alts. :D
 
You won't be able to maintain hate effectively as a captain until much later in your career though, and even then you'll have trouble when paired with a hunter.

I'd still go with it - captains are a fantastic class, just don't expect to hold mobs off the hunter.
 
Well it's a tricky situation.

Gf is a total noob, never played an MMO before.
I played a druid for a year in WoW.

As such, I figured a character that is not in the thick of it would be best for her, leaving hunter or minstrel.

But I wouldn't be comfortable relying on her minstrel for heals as a champion/guardian, so picked a jack of all trades class.

Decision decisions!
