Hi

I am currently running a free version of Avast antivirus.
I perform scans using Avast and Windows Defender reguarly.
Avast tells me that it is soon to expire.

Just wondering if there are any other free anti virus programs that perform better than Avast and are worth changing to.

Thanks

I *know* you asked for free, but I found the free stuff just isn't very good against malware. Still, if you're *pressed* for free, see if your ISP offers one. I just discovered mine offers Norton which has provided an excellent barrier thus far.

I don't like to disagree but ISP ones will not be what you are looking for, they will most likely be paid on a commission for selling you the one that they have a deal with and so they will skewed towards selling you that one.
AV-Comparatives is a good site for seeing what AV suites are doing well. Avira seems to be doing well currently, is fast at scanning, has good detection and is on the lower end of false positives.
You should use a separate malware scanner, the best being Malwarebytes. :)

Avast Free is a great AV, just register it, it's free and you get it for life, works perfect and with the Windows Firewall enabled your good to go.

I download files that may include viruses and I've never been hit by one, also my systems been working just as great as it was when I first installed Windows 7
