Gothic 4 - Arcania : A Gothic Tale

It has limited activation DRM???????

What rubbish :(

Wait, no its not:

http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/09/20/arcania-gothic-4s-drm-allows-for-unlimited-pc-game-installs/

The subject of DRM set ups for PC games has become more and more important for consumers, as evident by the massive backlash against Ubisoft's "Always On" set up for most of its recent PC games. Today publisher JoWood decided to be pro-active by admitting its upcoming fantasy RPG Arcania: Gothic 4 will be using the SecuROM DRM set-up for the PC version.

Admitting that DRM set-ups for PC games have in the past " had to find a balance "between user friendliness and security of the product" Arcania Gothic 4 will allow gamers to install it on an unlimited number of PCs. The game will only need to be activated once via an internet connection in order to be played on a PC with no constant net connection needed to continue playing. Each license will also allow the game to be played on up to three PCs at any one time. It will also have an auto-update feature and a pre-load feature to let players download the game before its officially launched in October.

Thats great then, and hopefully it will be available as steam'less :)

I think this is the same as what Sacred 2 uses, and its completely unnoticable.

This time the download errored!!!!

I hate this :x

its running fine on my 4890 + Q6600 :)

impressed so far - but can you not kick off with the non-enemy NPCs ?

I just thought I remembered being able to cause havock by attacking villagers etc - but in this they seem invincivble ?

Oh , didn't know that thanks although mines on Gpu too

Yay, downloaded at least!

Lets see how much this game taxes my I7 920 and SLI GTX 460s.

I have my 920 clocked down to 3.8 Ghz again because it was turning my room into an oven at 4 Ghz while playing Civ V.

3.8 Ghz = 1.2650v, 4.0 Ghz = 1.325v, 4.2 Ghz = 1.3625v and not very stable :(

I have to be the only person with an I7 that doesnt clock really high at < 1.3v.

Well, I tried to run it, but it black screens and stops working on launch :(

^ Gothic 4 relies more on GPU power and not cpu power , so your gtx 460's will be great for it :)

*IF* it will work, which the demo doesnt :(

I'll try downloading it again while my internet is downloading at 700-800 kbps, my previous one only said 1.70 Gb, but the website says 1.71 - 1.8.

Just finished the demo -and found it shocking you end up in that place at the end (not wanting to post any form of little spoiler).

It seems nice enough. I opted away from 1920x1080 because my GPU was up at 73 degrees (no FPS issues up to the point I changed). It would be fine except my fan goes stupidly loud based on the settings I've got it on in MSI Afterburner which I'd rather not change.

1600x900 was horribly stretched (not sure why) so I had to settle for 1366x768 or something similar. GPU didn't go over 65/66 degrees and FPS was generally 50-90.

I'm running Catalyst 10.8 drivers here which, based on the issues encountered in F1 2010 by a number of people using 10.9 and 10.9a, I won't be upgrading any time soon just in case my performance goes backwards.

I will need to do some serious tweaking to get this to run as I would like on my laptop.

Just tried the 360 version, I thought that at least if it looks poo it should run well...

Nope! Really jerky, and looks even worse than I thought it would.

I can get 20 fps or so on my laptop with it looking miles better, so I think I will persevere with it for now.

mmm I'd never played G1 or G2 - but I loved G3 - even if there were a few bugs

not sure just kept me more engrossed than another other game of same genre I'd played

G4 I'm not sure about seems a bit sterlie - but only just started playing demo
