Finally. 190KG Squat at 70KG.

Told you before, you are a potential record breaker. A few comp grade reps and you will be best in UK :)

It's not fat you have to drop, it's weight ;)
There are a few guides to dropping weight before a comp, but it's only really effective if the weigh in is a day before rather than on the day!

You have it in you, I can tell fella :)

exactly,

use a sweat suit, go inside a sauna and start skipping or some other form of cardio for 1 hour.

you will drop 3kgs of water easily.

go to weigh in - get weighed.

then drink as much water as you like before the competition.

Very impressive. Question - how much was your spotter helping? It's not obvious from the video.

I'm very weak at squat, have bad knees and my back plays up. Most I've managed is 130kg at 75kg.

None I would imagine/hope otherwise it's a failed lift.

You'll probaly find the spotter was in position with his hands a few inches away from DS's chest ready to help in a split second if need be.

When heavy squatting when you start to go down you go down pritty quick. If your spotter was just standing casually behind you by the time he'd have managed to help you'd have your head between your heels.

Ah I see. Have you ever competed before?

Thanks bud. Just a heads up, I'll be featuring on StrongLifts sometime soon.

Spotter just had his hands touching me.

That's very impressive! Try working on different rep ranges. 10 * 3, 5*5 and taking your 10RM and going to 20 rep breathing squats which can take anywhere from 3-8 minutes!

Nah not competed (I can't hold anything significant because of my thumb, will always need straps I'm thinking :( ). Been to a few comps though :)

Thread revival time!

Wow indeed, 190kg?! I've just started squatting and to am ~70kg. I started last week on just the 20kg bar and 10kg each side. Now up to bar + 25kg each side. Is that classed as 70kg or 50kg?

I am starting to feel a whole lot stronger in my back, legs and ass already

How low (or deep as I've heard it called) are you supposed to squat?
Will I get stronger/better by lifting heavier or by doing more reps? I have been doing 10 then dropping to 8 by the 3rd set

You'd count that as 70kg, you're still moving the bar as well.

Normally you should be going at least to parallel on squat unless there's a very specific reason not to (e.g. training for a particular event). You may have to work on your flexibility to do so though, check out icecold's thread(s) on flexibility.

What are your goals? Is it hypertrophy (aiming for larger muscles) or strength? Depending on your goals the advice may differ but changing your programme every so often allows you to break plateaus so to get better you need a bit of variation I'd say.

Thanks

Muscles and strength, probably more strength. I like to think I have good variation, I get bored pretty easily with a set routine so try and mix things up - Cardio, weights, punch bag, swimming

I have no problem with flexibility, can just about touch my ass on the floor and stand up again. Hands flat on the floor when bent forward / head on my knees

Flexibility isn't everything, to squat and deadlift properly you have to develop a lot of stiffness and stability throughout your torso. I'm not suggesting that you can't do this, but rather that just because you can get your arse close to the floor it doesn't rule out poor form.

Just saying I have no problems with flexibility. I have never had a strong core (or probably stability either) so this is what I need to work on

Just a point to note, I can almost touch my arse the ground, but at that depth by arse also starts to "tuck in" - which is (for me at any rate) owing tight hamstrings and tight TFL. So although I can get deeeeeep, my form actually breaks.

Wow that's mind shattering strength lol.

70kg bodyweight and you're deadlifting 190kg too?

Do you have any tips to increase my deadlift?

Really amazing job man..must feel great being that strong!
