Who should be leader of the Labour party?

you just wait and see, come the cuts the electorate will be begging for a lurch to the left.

The cuts have been needed for 10 years, unfortunately we had a Chancellor who has no grasp of basic economics.
If the last 2 idiots at No 11 did not spend more than we could afford, and did not refuse to cut (in the case of Darling due to him not having any balls until just before the election) then there would be no need for cuts now.

Electorate is not going to lurch to the left, the cuts will not affect the private sector that much ... and all the public sector workers already vote Labour as it is.

Damn, if only we'd had rypt managing the economy, we'd all be fine and there would be absolutely no need for an austerity package.

Alistair Darling was an excellent Chancellor, and if he's replaced in the shadow cabinet elections then my support for the Labour party will be one step closer to null.

What a beautifully simplistic mode of thought you possess, I'm envious.

Then why did he not cut when he was made chancellor, it was BEFORE the economic mess hit after all ...

To be fair to Darling, he did pretty well considering his boss was an insane bully who had caused the problem of the massive deficit by doubling the debt between 2002 and 2007...

Darling was probably their best actual shot at a good leader, but he didn't want it.

I don't care who is leader of the labour party, as long as they are not in power ruining this country even more than they already have, i am happy. :)

rypt is right through. A vast majority who votes Labour (especially life long Labour voters) are the ones who benefit the most from a Labour government and lest from a Tory government. I.e. Benefit claimants and Public sector works.

They already vote Labour,

So the only way Labour is getting back in is if the Private sector workers get disillusioned with ConLib, which they won't because they already had to take the brunt of the recession while the public sector has it nice and cosy for so long. I have a feeling they will last the whole 5 years. And i don't expect a Labour government for at least 2 terms.

I suppose we should count ourselves lucky that we have "Red Ed" and not "Red Balls". Mind we could be very lucky. If he shifts to the left then they’ll never get elected.

And come the brink of financial ruination that usually comes with it, they will be begging for a lurch to the right at a later date.

On the subject of cuts, I am still waiting for a credible answer from Ed on how the defecit will bet tackled, unless he thinks the tax rises he wants will cover it perhaps ?

Latest opinion poll gives Labour a one point lead over the Conservatives. Make no mistake, Labour are capable of winning the next general election if the new dear leader plays his hand well :D

Yeah, because the next election is only nearly 5 years away, and should take place under fairer constituency boundaries...

Dead cat bounce anyone? Remember, Brown bounced labour when he became leader, before leading them to their 2nd worst electoral defeat ever ;)

The next election is not guaranteed to be 5 years away, because it's a coalition government it's more likely that it will be sooner (imo a general election next year will be the Conservative's best chance of winning a majority). The government's popularity is only going to go one way, down. Their education plans are already in disarray and in a few weeks the British people will remember what cuts-with-relish tastes like.

The cuts are the reason the coalition will last the distance, as much as you'd prefer the country to head into the arms of the IMF...

History is not on Labour's side...
