WV Bora - Stuck Driver Side Window

So my A5 Bora has had it's first ever failure. Not bad considering I've put 95,000 miles on the clock since purchase.

The driver side window stopped working so I thought it was the switch assembly in the door.

1.) I took the switch assembly apart and it was as brand new as the day it was made, I checked for continuity and it's working perfectly.

2.) I replaced the window regulator since my scrap yard had the exact same model, the serials matched, it was dirt cheap and we tested it as functional. Didn't do a thing.

What on earth can I try next? I had an instance where the window started to drop after the switch broke and I pulled the window up very gently and it's never fell down since. So my next step is to dismantle the entire door to access the window arms and check if anything is stuck or preventing them from lowering. That's going to be a ton of work since they use multiple plates to strengthen that area and there's risk of damaging the arms and the handle release bar.

Anyone encountered else this issue with their Vdub or have suggestions?

Motors rules.

Maybe if I say something silly or show some tiny form of inexperience then I'll get the pack hounds running in.

Never mind.

I'd have bought the whole assembly if it was cheap as you say.
Can you hear the motor working?, if not its knackered. If it is still working then you may have pulled the window off its runners.
The cable on my old wind up windows started to fray and jammed the mechanism when I had a Passat

It'll be the plastic clips breaking on the regulator. You need the reglator repair kit, it replaces the plastic clips with metal ones. Can be a bit tricky to do though. The kit is roughly £30 (or was 5-6 years ago when I had the issue). It's a very common issue on all MK4 Golfs/Bora's as VW used these plastic clips which broke all the time. Google has a million and one answers to the problem in various forums especially the VW ones - check them out as there's tonnes of info out there about this issue.

This guide should help: http://vwgolfr32.co.uk/windowregulator/

Does the motor work?

Newer style regulator kits are available on eBay for around £40.

And they're not difficult to fit, if you can't hear the motor then check the fuses and see if you can test the wiring with another motor.

The OP said he's already replaced the regulator, so that would surely rule out the poxy plastic clips.

If the motor is not working then I'd check continuity of the wires that pass from the door into the cabin area - they get flexed every time the door is opened or closed, and broken wires aren't uncommon.

And I thank you for that thank you,Matt

what a polite bunch we are, during daylight hours at least:)

I just got back from work to be greeting with some excellent help. Thanks guys. Thank you for that link Vintage, that is exactly what I've been looking for!

I did buy the entire window motor assembly (below) and the switch is working because when I press UP I hear the relay. The same click that you hear from all the other windows when you press up and they are fully shut. The motor doesn't rotate when I have all the trim exposed but all sockets connected. Not sure if there's a safety trip that I'm missing.

Ahaha, 8 minutes at 5am and he's having a paddy that nobody replied :D. Surely a joke.
Look again, 24 hours and 8 mins.

Is that egg on your face?

That's the exact same fault I had on an Octavia, and it was a broken wire. I simply added an extra wire into the loom to bypass the broken one.

The drivers side window on my Fabia got stuck last year. It was just getting caught in the rubber guide trim that had come loose in the door frame. Left it with autoglass on my way to work and they only charged a tenner to sort it.

You keep telling yourself that mate and I'll keep throwing the eggs, cos you'll be right there to catch em on your face... or is that 'in yo face'?
