BA, Virgin or United to Washington

Not as funny as your pitiful contributions to this thread.

I am surprised you don't know what a figure of speech is though, you don't take them literally.

Getting an off vibe from you today fox, wrong side of the bed or what?

Just remind yourself this is GD

Its all that will keep you sane fella.

Virgin air stewardesses or British airways air stewardesses, that is the question?

I had the unpleasantness of flying with Thomas Cook once and they only had male stewards on board. Wasn't even a short flight, Vancouver to London :(

TBH it's usually under 8 hours to IAD. If you get a kip on the plane then the difference between the three is negligible. Personally, I go with the cheapest carrier who will satisfy my mileage accrual plans. I spend a lot of time going back and forth over the atlantic and I'm beyond caring about half an inch difference in seat pitch, IFE or how hot the hosties are.

If I were in your shoes, I'd fly with United and take advantage of the perks that your Star Alliance Silver membership will bring.

There's a difference between not knowing what it is and not believing that it was one ;).

Oh ok, you got me, I actually did spend months in genuine agony over which airline to use. Totally. It wasn't a figure of speech at all.

I wish I was as awesome as You.

Virgin's are overrated as they haven't a clue what they're doing.

Is that based on experience?

because from my exposure they seemed perfectly competent on the last (looks at points website) : 87 flights I took; over the last year and half. Maybe some of the blokes are as camp as a row of pink tents but they aren't in your face gay like a few other airlines I've had to endure, never once have I thought "wow you are clueless"

I think you missed the pun... :D

Flew with Virgin to NYC, was pretty good. On the way there we had this v-port (I think!) thing which was proper cool, on the way back we had extra leg space but no v-port which was proper annoying!

I spent months agonizing over this and eventually went Virgin. It was fine.

There are no truly great airlines on the transat route bar Air New Zealand who only fly to LA.

Have you flown Air New Zealand before? Am using them as a transit flight to get to my honeymoon location but can't say I'd heard much about them. Worked out a lot cheaper for me to use them hence why I booked them.

No - but I know others who have and the reviews are hugely favourable. They are considered to be an excellent airline. I really wanted to fly with them to LA but the flight times were inconvenient (As its geared towards London to Auckland - it only serves LA because it has to to refuel the plane).

Have a look at SkyTrax when choosing.
Although in the back what you want is the most seat pitch. (http://www.airlinequality.com/Product/seat_intro.htm)

Then use SeatGuru to get yourself a good seat. Unless you're flying with BA, in which case you can't choose jack.

As you've got the BMI card, it could be worth checking out other Star Alliance members such as Swiss. Lufthansa also fly to DC but their economy (and business, even) aren't anything to write home about.

The only Star Alliance carrier that does LHR-IAD direct is United. The rest all involve at least one connection. Besides, United is the only (IIRC) Star Alliance carrier that offers benefits like priority check in and boarding to SA Silver members.

Fair enough. The OP might think it's worth flying via somewhere for a better flight though. Although the cost will certainly increase..

I'm pretty sure priority check-in and boarding with SA Silver is standard though.
Gold joins the First Class queue, Silver the Business Class.
