Does anyone know why Wayne Rooney is featured in like, all the last covers of Fifa games?

I have nothing against Rooney just think there are dozens of far better players then him.

Because it's got nothing to do with how good a player is, and all to do with how well the said player can be used market the game and appeal to the target audience. However, it's normally the better/best players who attract most attention hence why they are used.

I imagine it's to do with a balance between cost and profile in the target market.

Did enjoy Theo "I've done nothing for the last year" Walcott (had done nothing at the time, very good start to this season before any angry Arsenal fans come hunting) being on the front of Fifa 10 though

Okay but... argueably anyone outside the UK cares much about Rooney.

Why not David Villa, Iniesta, Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Kaka, Fernando Torres, Messi, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, Ibrahimovic etc?

Again, I have nothing againts Rooney, it's just, I think the last 4 or 5 fifa games have featured him in the cover and quite frankly, I'm getting sick of it lol

Becasue Rooney is probably employed/contracted by EA Europe to advertise the FIFA games, although i would like to see a Madden/NHL style cover for FIFA in the future.

Isn't Kaka on the cover too? And I think they localise the players to each territory, hence the American version also has Landon Donovan and (randomly) Carlos Vela.

Who really cares whos on the cover of a Fifa game? It could be Marc Richards from Vale and it wouldn't stop me buying the game.

It probably would me :p

Luckily once the new FIFA disc is in my console, the box gets relegated to a shelf somewhere so I don't have to look at the ogre/a Man Utd strip. :)

Ah yes, you can get right down to work injuring the other team in order to win :D

I was also under the impression they used a player from the relevant country in each major country that they sell the game.

Rooney also no doubt has the best Brand Manager, Marketing Manager, Agent and others working for him and making sure he gets high profile contracts like this.

I always thought it was regionalised too - Im sure theres some Mexican on the US cover. Definitely know that the French/Spanish versions have been different in the past...

ps3ud0

That's only in North America, in North America the cover changes because they have to call it Soccer and not football.

I just don't get why Kaka and Rooney would be chosen as there are so many much better players. Kaka's performance in the world cup was terrible.

Probably because EA have a long running deal with them.
